Hi, i was wondering how hard it was to steal a vt commodore. the reason for this is i have one, im getting monaro lights boot garnish and a clubby body kit, my girlfreinds place (where i spend alot of my time) is in an area of campbelltown known for the hooligans that reside there. does anyone have any info on saftey precautions.. such as alarms systems, (prices or if they are worth it) because im sure my car will be very appealing to them. thanks alot guys...

I dont think anyone on a public forum is stupid enough to give people advice on how to steal a car no matter how you word it.
If you dont like the area take a taxi there.
Get a girl closer to home, mate if she living in Aird's/Ruse/Bradbury etc, your car is as good as gone the place it a cess pit! no one has got respect for anyone else who's got something nice out there, I know this FIRST HAND! Dated a girl for 18 months from Campbelltown, bought a VP Calais the second night I had it there some scum tried to steal it :bash:, The only thing that stopped them was the fathers dog was barking and wouldn't shut up cause it knew their was someone out side.

Airds/Ruse/Bradbury????? WTF what about Minno (no T), Claymore, Ambarvale, Rosemeadow, not forgetting the beautiful garden suburb of Macquarie Fields. The Holden Stealer Team will grab your VT before you can say "no claim bonus". ;)

Mate if your serious about parking there, go and research car alarms and immobilisers and what not. Or you can goto the extreme of a tracking system if you prefer. FST57L might be able to add more value as he seems to know a lot about alarm systems.

buy your self a cheap little run a round for shopping centre car parks ,girlfriends house etc thats what ive always done .
at least you can sell a cheap second car when your finished with it and recoup your money ,you wont get much back on a security up grade if you sold it and i can garantie it will cost more then a cheap car.
theres nothing worse then leaving your car some where out of your confort zone ,you can never enjoy yourself and you always end up looking for an excuse to either check up on it or to go home.

As someone said with the Holden Stealer Team, all you'll have left is the keys jingling in your pocket.
Putting the clubby kit and the monaro lights will make your car as good as gone.
Tell her she has to practice diving in the passenger side while your car will be rolling by at 25km/h.
On a serious note, it won't stop theft but a car cover might prevent some unwanted attention.

The Holden Stealer team were a group of low-lifes that lived around Ingleburn in the late 80's early 90's. They use to steal Holdens and trash em, and leave their brand name painted on the panels. I was only using it as an example, there are better organised and more professional gangs around these days, (fully sik bro) get my drift. VT's are reasonably secure in standard trim, but not unstealable. If you want to keep your car don't make it too attractive for low life thieves, don't park in dark secluded areas and don't advertise where you keep it, (word of mouth etc). Alarms with tracking and immobilising are going to give you an edge, at the end of the day though if someone really wants your ride........they will take the trouble to acquire it.

thats all well and good if you drive a stocky,
but most insurers that allow modifictions on board still only pay out the price of a market value stocky
eg my commodore is insured with an unlimited modification policy with an agreed value as high as i could get them up. now as this pay out figure may replace my ride with another identical standard model it is not going to replace the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ UNDER THE HOOD!!!! and drive line......
as they will except mods on the policy but wont compansate any mod losses due to theft.

i see it all the time at work, doing stolen and recovered claims for insurance companies, we have even had a vt ss series 1 in, that they actually high jacked the car from the owner, and gave him a bit of a beating, 9 out 10 times they smash 1/4 windows to get into the car. The best protection is let a rotty sleep in the back of the car.
All they are is low life scum. :bash:

Seriously though even with alarms etc the scum of that area will soon workout they cant just take it and then it will lead to vandilism of your pride and joy :bash: and maybe even you spending a few nights in hospital recovering from trying to keep it safe... :box:

Ssoooooooo true BLACK 346.
How blokes here have wasted time on chicks when we were young blokes, while our mates were out tearin it up!!
On his car - like many have already said. If the area is bad, nothing he can do. He could make it un stealable like my previous car - only towing would have worked, but they will do some damage in the meantime finding out they couldn't steal it - in my case $1200. Cost me the $350 excess.
If he is that concerned, he should not frequent the area, as the time he spends there won't be quality, and he will probably get dumped after he looses his ride!

Hey dude i live at horningsea park which is pretty close to campbeltown and ingleburn, and also own a VT, im 20 so theres not much diff. Just hope that ur car isnt a series 1. i made a thread here before about my cars rear quarter glass being snapped out and the bastards wound down the windows to get to the glovebox to open the boot. they stole my spare tyre and jack...oh and a street directory too.
My advice is be careful. Realistically, no ones gonna steal ur car the moment u arrive at ur gf place. i've had the car for about a year, and only once has it been broken into...whichi is still alot compared to the camry and my old sigma, they both have never gotten brokn into. I've told my dad that we should get an alarm system, but he said no mainly cus we have insurance anyways so we're alright i guess. Try and insure it, and put an alarm system, and get a metal pole :box: ready incase there are more than one trying to steal it when u catch them :)

Very true. Breaking into houses and taking your keys is becoming more common. The sh1theads dont care that you are home while they do it either. Less common is when the crooks use a stolen shitter to cause a minor accident with your car. When you get out to exchange particulars, they take your keys (by force if necessary) and off they go. Another way is they simply follow you home, then steal it as you go to park. I just read in the paper some bloke found this out the hard way when his $200,000 merc was pinched last night from Sydney, then the crooks did a series of ram raids etc.

Call up Rhino, they have a GSM car alarm that works with your factory remote, and you can remotely shut it down i.e. send a message to stop the car, slightly illigal, but if u do it on ur own head, like i have, someone can take ur keys, but they wont make it outa my street ;) The product is Trans-ram...

How about you install a killswitch in addition to an alarm?
You can make a killswitch pretty easily and hide it under the carpet somewhere. This saved one of my early commodores and all that was stolen was the stereo and not the car! The problem with standard alarms is that theives know the systems and how most installers put them in.
All you need to do is isolate something critical (12v feed to the fuel pump is good), hide the switch and you should stand a much better chance.
If you choose a circuit that is contantly on while the car is on, you can set up a relay to automatically isolate the circuit when you turn the car off - that way if someone is watching you when you park the car they will not learn where the switch is. All you need is 1 x dual output relay, 1 x small momentary push button switch and some wire etc. All up cost $10.
Let me know if you want to know how to wire the thing up!

When you get a state of the art alarm, kill switch is not going to help, if it did, the alarm needs some work, or a better installer... No car 2 date has been stolen with the above mentioned, or its brother alarms...

I was thinking about it as a backup, 2nd line of defence type thing
I had a friend who had Brisbane Car Sound (ie: Strathfield) install an alarm, the idiots actually put the (single) ignition immobilising relay about 3 inches away from the ignition switch under the steering column shroud.... it pays to check out the install or at least get some references!
This is probably indicative of only one of their stores, they may not be all this bad - but it pays to check

The state of those suburbs...what's left to say.
That's when you wish there were another thousand police in the area cruising by and throwing those grimey turds in paddy wagons, then opening the doors at the edge of a cliff.
Either that or the police should be armed with flame throwers. Just torch the area and start a fresh. ( :flame: ;) )
The only solution: if you want to drive to those areas, get the alarm Carl mentioned.

Claymore (def) a satellite suburb that wasn't launched far enough.
