Ok fellow South Aussies, who did your gears?
Everyone I speak to wants $800-$1000 to fit gears that I already have!
I've read posts on here from members who have had gears fitted for $250-$300. Everyone wants to rebuild my diff, but it's only got 50k and works like a dream.
If I'd known beforehand I would have paid the money plus the extra for the 3.73s new, but I got a set of 3.46s for a good price, and was banking on this cheap fitting I keep hearing of.
Look forward to hearing from lots of you, including people who had new gears fitted and how much that was.

I had my diff rebuilt and had 3.9 fitted by Precision diffs on port road and I found them to be very good.

Assuming you guys had new gears fitted (I've never seen 2nd hand 3.9s) would you care to PM me a rough price they charged you?
They (precision) are towards the lower end of the scale I mentioned above, but if it's going to be $1000 for 3.46s second hand ($800 fitting + $200 gears) or $1400 for 3.73s brand new, I'll just sell the 3.46s and bite the bullet.

Does anyone else have anything to offer me on the subject?

I haven't had diff gears done yet, but Jason at Transteer is pretty well priced.

Like what's been said previously. Go see precision's. I haven't used them personally however several mates use them to rebuild gearboxes and diffs for both their road and race cars and they've had no problems with bad workmanship or failures.

I know Precisions work is sposed to be good.
I was lucky enough to find a local swapping out his 3.9's (thanks Robjo)and we just swapped centers. That was very cheap to do as I have some mates down the street that do diff work on drag cars and swapped them out for very little reward :) .....
Chops I can give you their number if you like. They're good guys...backyard but they work on a lot of tough cars and know their stuff.

Anyone who is charging you more than $350 is touching you. Here in sunny Bris ther's any number of places that will do the swap using your gears, but supply new bearings, seals and oil, for $250 - $350. Keep shopping...

See, that's what I keep hearing seldo, which is why I posted this thread in the first place. (your input is appreciated as always)
Each quote I've had lists approx $600 for bearings.
Now that I know these prices others have quoted include bearings, how can there be such a discrepancy?

That's a non-sense chops. All they replace is the pinion-bearing and seal and the cw&p. So, it's about 2 hours labour, 1 bearing, 1 seal, and a bit of oil... C'mon.... (sorry LLeyton..) ;)

The quotes I've been getting are probably for a full set of bearings.
I know output shaft bearings have been mentioned.
Your info is appreciated.

Yeah, thanks Shaun.
I'm not concerned on the price as a whole, just re-evaluating what I'm getting for the price, and if it is going to be that much, I will spend the extra and get what I really want, not just what I was going to do cos I thought it would be cheaper.

From memory mine cost $1330 3.9 supplied and fitted with new bearings. The good thing about precn, is when you get a quote its itemized, so you know exactly what your're getting and what you've paid for. I think labor was around 330. Good service, good advise and no bs.
