How are you guys, We've had a great weekend. Took the utes to Heathcote. The VZ head and cam ran low 11's off the bottle and a 10.88 with 100hp NOS kit. It had a lot of wheel spin and was quite a ride down the strip. We've got a lot of sorting out to do which will take some time. I think next time the key is to remove the spare wheel. Might be an improvement ;)
A customers blue VZ auto unopened ran 12.1's for its first time on the track. Cant wait to see both these cars run at Calder.
Cheers Mick

Well done Mick, Frank and APS Frankston. I had the privlidge of not only seeing the run but Mick took me for a pass and resulted in a 11.11 with the two of us in the car. It was a great day and hope for it to happen again soon.
PS. Take your spare wheel out from under the car next time
thanks, Jay

There's alot more in this car, but it's a great thing to drive down the strip.
It took most of the day but yes, Street Machine has taken photos and the story wont be out for a couple of months.
In the short time we have been tuning these cars in house, we are certainly seeing alot better results first hand, and its exciting working with these engines every day, from stroking to just cam shaft packages.

Hay guys, just interested in some feedback on how people have found the revving capabilities of the standard LS1 crank.
What are people revving them to, and what problems has anyone found?

We've turned them as hard as 7500rpm :)
VZ Cranks are slightly different just in weight we spin this one to 7400, all day every day, 7500 on the track. We had our crank tuftrided and stress relieved, it may have been over kill but its cheap insurance.
Its good to here other workshops spinning them that hard as well.

8000RPM
Stock crank is the strongest standard componet in the LS1 engine.Decided not to go past this as there is no table in the PCM that will support it.
Consistent 7000RPM on stock Rods will make them long enough to fit into a Big Block.
Glad to share some info.
Cheers Phonsy
P.S Well done on your 10 second pass

We are running different rods for anything above 7000rpm, what about forced induction under 7000 or close to 7000rpm any problems?
We have two blower packages coming up and they both will be driven hard (alot of track use) one of those is a 6ltr.

Looks like the APS guys have at least another 500 RPM to find......
Just remember that Phonsy was turning 8,000 RPM back almost a year ago, just wait until he find some spare time and brings Rippin out again to play!!!!

We have been tuning in house for only 8 months, finding the revs are not the problem, finding the time to go to the track is. Its taken five years for others to get a unopened into the 11's and in 8 months we ran 11.86 manual ss ute on slicks, pump fuel, all body parts and interior untouched, we even had the tail gate up for that run.
Phonsy does brilliant work and we enjoy talking to him for his opinion and we look forward to running together at the track.
We have just finished two more engine packages in the last week. A full engine package on a Grange and a cam only on a Crewman. We hope to have a big night in a few weeks at Calder with 6 cars including the VZ with a 150 pill this time....
Cheers Mick

The results you have achieved so far in that short time are brilliant. You are to be commended on your work.

While we are here
If its not a secret
What shot you giving it ?
And what rwkw is it making on the gas ?
I like the 60' time, give me some tips
APS Fston
04-10-2005, 02:32 PM
100hp shot gives it 385rwkw on the gas.
Stalling to 4000 on the line and trying to keep your foot hard to the floor.
We did have a few problems with the stall speed flashing too high and having to lift the foot off the gas to change through the gears :hmmm:

Is there any issue turning an A4 to 7500 rpm in any gear ?
cheers

7500rpm with a stock transmission that's been serviced regularly would be at it's limit. But no stock Gen III engine would need to spin to that rpm, so if you have an engine that revs to those rpm's, then you should get the auto looked at. There are things like a rev kit that can be fitted to avoid centrifugal application due to high revs. Our transmission builder is very well known in the industry and if you have any questions that you would like me to run by him, PM me your details and questions and i'll call you.

Cool
Heres a little comparison
APS - NOS Shot 100 - rwkw 385 - 60' 1.543 - 10.882 @ 121.36 mph
SLY - NOS Shot 127 - rwkw 344 - 60' 1.649 - 10.949 @ 123.43 mph
interesting stuff

We have made a lot of changes to the car and I feel it will easily be a 10.5 or better. When we ran the 10.88, we were also running 4.11 diff gears bouncing off the rev limiter 30m before the line. We are hoping before we bring it out again that it will have a 90mm fly-by-wire throttle body.
Naturally aspirated, this car has 331rwkw. With 100hp Nos kit 385rwkw.
100hp shot divided by 1.34 = 75kw less driveline drag = 55rwkw
331rwkw + 55rwkw = 386rwkw.
It'd be a lot of fun when we eventually line up together. :driving:
We are trying very hard to get this car and our other VZ blown ute M6 to the ute drags at Heathcote

Should be good fun, hopefully you guys will make it up, we already have 6 NOS / Cam powered VY SS Utes competing on the day.

What is your rev limiter set at? Cause earlier in the thread you state.....

121.36 MPH with 4.11 Diff gears and 1:1 (3rd gear) is 6684RPM. If you rev too 7500 you should be able to spin too 136.17MPH.... Something weird going on there
I'll be over in heathcote for this ute drags thing next month too.... I'd love to see this thing race :)

Tell me about it, we think it was mostly in the stall converter and some trans slip, but after talking to Jason at Dominator we should be on top of the problem. Also on the gas we dropped the rev limiter down slightly.
