The latest episode of Top Gear (Season 6:Episode 11) had the DWong Drifters drop in from Japan to do their thang with the Vauxhaul VXR Monaro.

I could not believe the angle these guys were getting and maintaining.

Check it out if you get a chance - you'll be amazed

Remember. Turn in "before" the corner ;) ;) ;)

Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways.........Still sideways......... :)

Oh yeah. The Stig took the VXR around the track in 1:30.1 which is the same time as an STi. Geez the 6 litre sounds horn on full tilt :bash: :bash: :bash:

I still can't understand how the Coupe will run the same time as an STi around the track? ... Something up with that I reckon ... An STi would have a Coupe for breaky on the track.

The Stig managed to keep the RWD Monaro in a straight line, and only got it sideways at the end of the track to get it over the line, maybe that had something to do with it?
I dont think the track time can be false.

Top Gear’s test track is designed with fast straights and tricky corners that test understeer, oversteer, loading on tyres, brake balance etc.... They put a lot of thought into the test track with assistance from the Lotus test drivers.

The list of cars that have made it around the track can be found here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/

The “Stig” who is their trained driver is unknown but is apparently an ex-F1 driver. He has tested ever car with all computer assistances turned off. And he is damn good!

That gives the fairest test to every car.

Was a great episode that one. Can't believe Jeremy had his back put out by all of that. Mind you, they don't show his entire day of fun. I got a copy online if anyone wants it: Topgear (http://www.tone.hoon.tk/Top%20Gear/Top%20Gear%20-%20%5b06x11%5d%20-%202005.08.07%20%5bVuk%20Rip%5d.avi)

I've extracted the Monaro footage, reduced the size to 320x176, encoded it with divx and AAC audio. Anyone willing to host the 10MB file? I won't post it up to the usual 'image' hosting providers on this forum as it would just chew up bandwidth.

If you are going to host it, PM me and we'll discuss. I will NOT send the file to individuals who request it for themselves personally and I'll just delete the message.

Moderators, if hosting this clip is not appropriate, please let me know.

Cheers,
Steve

You've got to remember, they were doing it in the VXR, the Vauxhall equivalent of the HSV, including body kit etc.

I was impressed it was better than a 911 Turbo by 1 sec. Granted the 911 was on a wet track. Does anyone remember what the Stig did with the first Monaro around the track, also on a VERY wet day?

Cheers,
Steve

The Stig is a bloke called Perry McCarthy. He has a book called "Flat Out, Flat Broke: Formula 1 the hard way" It's a bloody funny read.....

If you go to the finalgear dot com forums there's a running discussion on who The Stig actually is. Current thinking suggests that Perry McCarthy was the black-suited Stig (seasons 3 and bit of 4 I think) who "died" driving an old Jag off an aircraft carrier...

There were rumours of the white Stig being Damon Hill, but most in the know think that the latest Stig is whoever's reasonably handy at the wheel and free at the time of filming.

Perry was the old black stig... The new white stig is quite a bit faster than him too...

I don't think the white stig is Damon hill, because if you'd seen the episode where Damon is the star in a reasonably priced car, he takes a totally different line into the first left hander up to "chicago." Jeremy commented that it was a totally different line to what the stig takes... Mark Webber also took the same line as damon a couple of weeks ago, so i doubt it was a slower line just to throw people off... I don't think damon is the stig... I think I am...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8325143480&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT - You can only get the official ones (Mark Webber got one) with a Top Gear magazine subscription and only if you live in the UK... these are pretty cool tho.

Thanks for clearing that one up chaps, I didn't realise they had changed from the "old" to a "new" Stig :stupid:

Tried uploading it but got the following error:

Due to persistent abuse we regret we are no longer accepting uploads from your region at this time.

Anyway, doing a quick search on putfile finds a clip already posted on there:

Top Gear Monaro LS2 (http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=d1-topgear-monaro)

Doesn't show post clip comments from Jeremy nor the Stigs run. My offer still stands.

Steve.

Which episode featured the Monaro in the sand/water/beach flat chat?

I wasnt aware of it, ive got the 'rotary car' clip (not the ep, dont know which one it was), but not the sandy one.

Bloody brilliant driving though!

It's probably because the show is copyright material. Sucks I know, but there it is.
