Had the SS a couple of weeks. When checking the oil today I noticed the top and bottom radiator hoses were flat as a pancake.

The engine was cold and had not been run all day. I opened the overflow bottle and this allowed air in and re-inflated the hoses.

In all my years I haven't seen this. As I have 3 mths warantee I need to know what is causing this and how to fix it so I can get it done asap.

Any clues would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Posted the same problem a couple of months back, you
need a new cap for your overflow bowl. Can PM you
the part number if you need it.

yes either the cap is faulty or the small hose to the over flow bowl will be blocked!

I pulled the hose off and removed the cap and blew down the hose. Aslo sucked (carefully). No blockages.

Put the cap back on and blew and sucked and was unable to get anything to move. If i was parked in Oxford St I think I might have made a few friends.

I don't know how the caps are designed but if they should allow air to flow when cold then it's definately stuffed.

Do a search under 'Top radiator hose collapse' there has been quite a few post on this. Not always the cap, mine did it once about 2 years back mentioned it on the next service and they said they bled some air from the system, don't know how they would have done that, probably did nothing, but it has never done it again. And they did not replace the cap. They also said it was a pretty common occurance.

I did a search Drewie. Mate it just confused me more

I understand that the hoses will re-inflate when the water warms up but the hoses will definately fail early with all that expanding and contracting.

I think if the caps are only about $20.00 it wont hurt to give it a go.

As you say what's $20, worth a try.

Some times you just need to tighten the cap up a bit more to make it seal, mine was doing it and someone on here said to just to turn it on tighter, and sure enough no more flat hose since.

It wasn't very tight. I'l make sure its tight and see how that goes.

I had the same problem on the VT.

"Had" meaning I haven't noticed the problem again since my mechanic replaced the radiator hose. Seeing if it comes back again.. the cap theory is interesting, might need to upgrade mine (just like I had to upgrade the cheap crappy VT clutch fluid cap - that one literally started to fall apart!).
