hi all

Does the VZ Monaro has a short shift lever? There's one for sale on ebay and Im trying to work out if its legit:

Does the shorter shift lever make much difference to the feel?

I just got one of these from holmart, the pics look exactly the same as on the holmart website. The only thing you need to do if you have vx or earlier is the surround that the boot is attached to is square not oval shaped. It's a little bit fiddly to make it fit.I cut the boot to fit the vx surround then glued it,the end result is neat if you take care.Apparently holmart uses a toolmaker to modify the shaft to suit vx back. You can't tell it's been modified.
The shifter feels nice to use,the knob has a much nicer feel  than the old plastic one.
I have read on here before that people think you would need more effort to shift gear's,i have noticed no difference.
so i would say go for it mate, the price is very similar to what i paid.

i noticed these on ebay as well.

theres actually a vt/vx one as well which i would assume has the correct boot.

do they help improve shifting?

I know they wouldnt be as good as a rip shift, but they are also a lot less expensive. I ask as I would like to improve the feel but having just bought a house, getting permision and approval off the missus for 600 odd for a gear stick is impossible!!

I foolishly ticked the "HSV short shift kit" option when I bought my CV8. Bad, bad decision. Yes, it's shorter, and the shift is "quicker", but the gates are still fubar. Getting from 1-2 to 3-4 was more often than not a bit of a fight.

Save your money and wait till you can get a ripshift.

PS: 2nd hand genuine HSV short shift for sale, going cheap, if anyone would like it :)
PPS: It came off a series 3 CV8, I have no idea what else it will fit.

i just bought one of the VT/VX shifters off that guy on ebay.
looks exactly the same as the VY one but you have to remove to plastic surround on the bottom of boot and take the one of your old shifter and fit it on.
I screwed it on and fitted the shifter to the car and it looks perfect with the silver dash surround on the SS and feels heaps better.
more positive shift.
I personally would say its worth the $$$.
