Hey peoples how we all doing, just thoughts id give my two bobs about black cars as i have a black ss ute. I love the colour dont get me wrong it looks aggressive yet classy, its hard to go past, but then there is the other side of it, the part where it shows all marks and the dirt, let alone if u leave it a week after rain and some bird terds the marks are just a massive pain in the butt to get off. Just a question for any others who have there car in this great colour how often do u polish ur car to get rid of these marks?? and do u have the same troubles with the marks??

any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

i havent owned my car too long, but from what i can gather from others, i wash it once per week, polish once a month, polish and wax every 3 months....i use all meguires stuff, wetlook polymear sealant polish stuff, meguires gold wax as well as interior and wheel cleaner and tyre blackener...but i do use johnson & johnson bubby shampoo suds as a wash and it has no troubles gettin out marks....i find very fine scratches are the issue which happen to be all over the car just about but profoundly on the boot for some reason  ...as for bird crud i have been pretty luck i havent had any huge white shite but those fine lil yellow dot shits are another story....when black is just cleaned and all polished it looks awesome, no doubt about it....but it lasts 5 mins doesnt it  ...dust is also an issue

Black cars are a love hate relationship. The way I look at it is when its clean it looks so damn nice, and that is my reward for getting off my but and washing it so often (usually once or twice a week). My car lives out side and I have a serious bird dropping problem. Heres a brief outline of how I wash it. Its not ideal but its worked ok for me for the past 18 months without waxing.

1. go to the local wash it yourself car wash (usually late at night so I cn take my time and no one gets annoyed with me)
2. rince car from a distance with the high pressure soap. Do it from a distance first to get the car wet so that your not just sand blasting the car.
3. After the car has had a light rinse I then move the nozzle to about 6 inches from the surphse of the car to remove the heavier dirt and bird drop[pings.
4. Fill a bucket with clean water ( most of these car washes have a tap somewhere around) and car wash solution. (Ive been using maguires soft wash)
4. Wash the top parts of the car. Put a dollar in the machine and give it a quick rinse.
5. Rince bucket, refill and wash the bottom parts of the car. When hand washing on the upper surfaces of the car I wash in a front top back motion. and the sides I do in an up and down motion.
6. rince car.
7. If your lazy like me I use the high pressure polish that they have there to hopefully protect the paint a little better. (The polish usually washes off the next time you wash the car so dont expect it to last)
8. Spot free rinse. This is just clean water to rinse the excess polish off.
9. Chamios dry with a "big blue towel" microfibre chamios. If I can be bothered.

Now this is not an ideal process and Im sure many would disagree with many of the points but it has worked for the past 18 months without a proper polish. It is booked in for its first detail in a few weeks.

I have phantom and you must love washing your car to have black. I use the following:-
1. Meguires NXT washing soap
2. Pinnacle Soverign Wax. Wax for the start of each new season.
3. Meguires Reflections in between waxes.

Looks a million dollars on the day of the clean.

Good old black paint :D

Ok, look black is without a doubt the best colour to get results out of (Christ wait til Chilly reads this  ) but it does demand a lot of work to get it looking brillinat and keep it there.

It really comes down to time and products. If you're an owner that really doesn't give a "you know what" about regular washing and vehicle looks then black is not for you. However, if you're a fastidious owner, whom is prepared to spend how ever long it takes to make it and keep it looking great and use top class products you will never go wrong and you will be a very happy owner.

I use, recommend and sell ZAINO and MENZERNA. MENZERNA are brilliant for panel preparation to remove scratches, blemishes and marks etc, whilst the ZAINO seals, protects and deepens the look of the paint. Both ZAINO and MENZERNA are the top of their class in the world for their products.

I have used these products on Chilly's, Mongy, BOSS (Rhys Bennette) and JusticeR8's vehicles from this site which are all Phantom Mica (except Mongy's which is the purple VY colour) and all have turned out great and I'm sure they will all (well I hope they do) agree.

Here are some tips on products and how to go about it:-

Does your car suffer from fine scratches, that look like spider web, silk etc? Do you prefer to "do it yourself" and get that satisfaction out of it at the end of the job knowing you did it yourself? If this is a "YES", then this topic is a must for you to use as a guide to "do it yourself".

I have a suggestion here to help and yes if you take my advice I will profit from it, but it will leave you with a from ear to ear with the result.

What you need:-

1.) Makita 5" random orbital sander = $200
2.) 2 x 6" special foam pads = $62
3.) 1 x 1ltr bottle (only size it come in) Menzerna Intensive Polish = $58
4.) 1 x 1ltr bottle (only size it come in) Menzerna Final Finish = $58
5.) 5 x gold supersoft Microfibre cloths = $55
6.) Zaino Z2 Pro Showcar polish = $35.75
7.) Zaino ZFX = $47.85
8.) Zaino Z6 Gloss Enhancer = $26.40
9.) Meguairs foam applicators = $5

Application and procedure:-

1.) Was and dry car throughly first.
2.) Attach special foam 6" pad to random orbital and set on speed number 5
3.) Starting on the roof work in several 10c size dabs of the Intensive Polish. ##hint## as you approach the dab lift the edge of the pad and quickly place it down over the dab of polish so that it doesn't fly everywhere .
4.) Do the entire roof and remember to work the product in.
5.) Remove any excess with a clean microfibre, removing it in a back and forward motion, not circular and only do it lightly.
6.) Make sure the roof is free of any left over Intensive polish and use a second microfibre if nessecary to make sure of this.
7.) Change to the second foam pad and apply the Final Finish the same way.
8.) do this to all panels going in this order Roof, bonnet, boot, front guards (raise the bonnet first) then doors, front and rear bar.
9.) Wipe car down with Zaino Z6 and two clean microfibre cloths. Spray small amount of Z6 on the roof, wipe over it spreading it with one microfibre then dry with another clean microfibre.
10.) Repeat this process all over the car.
11.) Mix up half a mixing tube of Z2 Pro and 4-5 drops of ZFX (blue tube). Shake vogioursly for 90+ seconds.
12.) Lightly mist some Z6 over the applicator, then apply a small amount of Z2 Pro to the applicator
13.) Using back and forwards motion NOT CIRCULAR apply the Z2 Pro VERY SPARINGLY. Apply it that sparingly you shouldn't be able to see it on the car.
14.) Repeat all over car.
15.) Let car dy for 30mins and buff off with a clean microfibre
16.) Go back over the car again with the Z6
17.) Re-apply another coat of Z2 Pro as the first coat
18.) Once again wait til dry (about 30mins), buff off and re-do with Z6
19.) Apply last coat of Z2 Pro, let dry, buff off and re-do with Z6 again

FINISHED!

** PLEASE NOTE**

A random orbital polisher will not burn or damage the paint, unless you held it there for 5-10mins continiously. The cheap ones are shit, the Makita is a great product, easy to use and safe too.

Sorry Guys, back to black paint. Some say red cars are faster (have you watched the F1 this year ?) but we all know that Black looks the best. And you can make a black faster, can't make a red car look any blacker  They are a bitch to keep clean but they are so worth it.

 We gotta stick together chilly, that red army is getting pretty big :hide:

When we bought our house it had a dark red / moroon colour on the eaves, fence posts, railings etc. on the outside. We had it all painted over with a really nice bluey / grey colour. We had a polish painter who said it was a good move "because RED is the communist colour"

Fear the Turismo carisma. Many a cause for potential accidents as other drivers look across rather than watching the traffic in front of them.

Where is my back up? COUPE?

I'm washing my car every week or two and to be honest, I don't notice the car looking dirty until I've washed the first panel. Gotta love scoresby freeway roadwork muddy roads. I'd hate to have black from a 'cleaning' perspective but it's a great color for that "You lookin' at me kid?" effect.

I was originally going to buy a black car, but due to money constraints, I couldn't buy new, so I really didn't have too much of a choice when it comes to 2nd hand cars that I like.

Mate of mine bought a black car. It does look like a million bucks after he's washed and polished it. Next day, you can see a fine film of brown dust over it, and that's just from sitting in the car port. Now I'm happy I didn't go black....sorry chilly ;)

I would not own a black car without a garage. Nor would I probably own one to drive everyday. It can be a lot of work to keep them looking non-crap.

Yer I own black vt ss.

Deosn't fase me about keeping it clean...I mean choosing a black car didn't bother me cos I like to look after my cars. You get that great feeling of acheivemnt once you have spent half of a sunday detailing ur own car.

It is like buying a v8 and saying "it costs to much to run and it chews the juice". you just put the fuel in and enjoy driving it.

Same with buying a black car, you know what u r in for.

Just clean it and enjoy it while it is clean, then do it all over again....lol

If you are like me and wash your car during winter only every 2-3 weeks, black is a terrible colour.

Yesterday, I invested in a car detail for my 18 months old Phantom Black VY11 SS.

The transformation was amazing. I hadnt realised how bad the paint had deteriorated.

I can highly recommend, for Melbourne car owners, the excellent work and attention to detail given by Garry Everitt of Hi-Tech Detailing. He spent some 6 hours working on the exterior paintwork alone.

A great guy who as a real car enthusiast, will give your vehicle the attention it requires.

The paintwork is now better than new and virtually flawless.

If you do not have the time nor experience to do the job yourself, give a Garry a call. I am sure you will be more than happy with the results. Garry can be contacted on - 0417 101 247
