Have done a search and info only covers registering vehicle etc...

Howdy all;

Looks like I will be buying a car from Queensland in the near future (privately), being in Perth I had to rely on others to do the ground work for me...

To summarise, I have had the vehicle inspected, had photo's, written examination, REVS check, Written Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) check, contacted Police to confirm owner is who he says he is, have rung Holden to verify engine, VIN details are for that vehicle and to check on warranty work; so all looks good.

Now my question is how do I pay for it ?? I will pay a deposit into his bank account, but how do I give him the cheque for the balance when the Car transport company pick up the car ??

Do I send the cheque to the car transport company and have them give him the cheque when he gives them the car ?? How do I go about completing transfer forms ??

ADVICE NEEDED !!! :D

Thanks in advance.

I purchased a car from QLD last year .... I flew up, looked at the car, drove with the owners to the transporter, loaded it, paid the transport guy, then paid the owners for the car ... I negotiated the airfares into the price of the car so that was all cool ... I believe that there are 3rd Party Escrow services that will help you out ... cant remember the name (VIP I think they are) ... unless one of our more reputable QLD Forum members can help out :)

Why not do a direct deposit for the ballance owing on the car when the car has been handed in at the transport yard , this would be easy enough to confirm / where in Qld is the vehicle located ?

May I ask whom did the inspection? I hope it was not VIP? Last car I bought interstate was from Qld, based upon an inspection from VIP. When the car arrived it's condition was so poor I had to check the VIN to ensure it was the same car!!!

I will never recommend VIP to anyone, and based on what I've seen with most cars relocated from Qld, I'd never recommend buying one from there either.

Unless it's something ultra rare, buy "locally" (WA should be great for rust-free iron!?)

My two cents.

Plenty of LS1 members over here that might be ale to have a quick look. I know of one that can even do a roadworthy etc for you. You could also get him to drop it into Powertorque for a look (might cost a few $$) but it would be worth it to get a REAL evaluation

Funny You should say that about VIP As I have sold two Cars that Buyers have had VIP inspection's done on. one a 94 Mustang GT HO Sold to a couple in Canberra. & the first time they had seen it was when they lobbed at My front door to drive her back. & The VIP Guy represented the car perfectly & even listed any faults in detail. The buyers were very happy with the inspection. Second was just a local couple with a bmw i had again listed many faults He did a great job with the inspection. Then again both these inspection's were done in Melb & this guy was really into his cars. I guess they could havejust had a Dud inspector up in QLD?

Just a word of warning. A mate bought a car recently in Vic, thought all was sweet, goes to get the rego transfered to NSW and the number under the drivers seat (i think it is the body no.) didn't match the VIN no. In other words the car is un-registerable in NSW, be careful, its been a massive shit fight since.

Yeah .. sorry to diverge topic, but stuff "missing" from my inspection was:
1. Engine fumey
2. ALL frontend bushes shot
3. Far more extensive rust than identified
4. Heavy accident damage on LHS
5. Two broken taillights (had to get replacements from USA and Can)
6. Poor RHD conversion
.. I understand VIP sub-contract work. Obviously they sub-contracted this to Blind-Freddy", or a mate of the seller.
My advice .. be VERY careful with this.

OzJav - that's crap mate! The car is basically useless til you fix it!

I bought a car from a NSW dealer, and they shipped it up to QLD for me. I never saw the car, they described the dents and history to me in great detail and sent alot of photos. Suppose I got lucky, the car was in great shape. Then, after it arrived, I took it over to QLD Transport, had an inspection on the spot and paid for all the rego and insurance.

Mine went very easily - maybe cause the car was still registered in NSW, and I had 14 days to cross it over.
