Wheels mag has published images from it's october issue on it's website, including images of the new 380 before it's release.

Looks better than expected IMHO.
(though I'd prefer the car on the left of the front cover first)

What is everyones thoughts excluding the whole fwd thing?

it looks great, not painful on the eyes at all. clean lines, modern, not too chunky...
i hope this works for them coz a lot of ppl will go hungry if it backfires

Looks good, is it just me or is there a bit of Subaru Liberty in the front and a bit of BA Falcon in the sides ...

I really don't like FWD but this should do well, especially if it's built well.

i hope they didnt cut costs on built quality just to save a buck because that will ruin them... remember all the faults with the pajero over the last 15 years that they played down? did u know 'pajero' is spanish for tosser... seriously  . just thought i'd throw that in lol :p
ps. mitsu oz should change the pajero's name back to montero. :bash:

Looks good, I'm glad they got rid of that nose thing. My first car was a Magna Sprots so I do have a soft spot for Mitsu built Aussie cars..as for FWD, who cares?, I remember having as much fun in my Magna Sports as I have had in my SS....okay I'm having MUCH more fun in the SS, but that's due to the engine and looks from other drivers not that it is RWD......

yea although there will always been rwd enthusiasts, the majority of cars are fwd mainly for cost reasons, but i dont think fwd are that bad. theyve definately improved.

If Mitsu was really serious about selling it. They would release a 380 AWD available with a real manual gearbox and of course an auto option.

The 380 will be coming with manual standard ( not awd yet though ) with a 5 speed auto option, saw the car in the flesh at the dealer launch, one killer package. definately worth the money. And at the drive day at calder park the 380 was easily beating the 6 cyl VY, BA and Camry in both quarter mile, braking and cornering.

I am far from a Mitsu fan but they sound rather impressive. I hope it does well for them so people can keep their jobs.

Looks a country mile better than their last abismal effort. Not bad at all in fact ... need to get a good look at the back though as there are plenty of cars out there with nice fronts and shocking tails

I guess because they are only planning on building about 30,000 per year, money just wasnt available to alter it too much from the US Galant on which its based.

Why didn't they have a VZ or is that what you meant and if so was it the 175 or 190 Alloytec?

There is no doubting the current magna is a well built car..........it's just plain fugly!
And there is no doubting what a "hero" car does for a manufacturer. Holden having the SS and Monaro, I believe has contributed greatly to their success over the last five years. Let's hope that MMA can turn things around and keep Australian jobs and also get better cars. They have had some great cars in the family that we have unfortunately missed out on and maybe now they've added the MIVEC 2.4 Lancer and mayber a fair dinkum sports 380 in the works will keep them going for a few more years yet.

New model in Australia, but based on what you already know it in Montreal as THIS. (http://www.mitsubishicars.ca/MMSA/jsp/galant/index.jsp)

It sounds the goods, but it wont be able to touch falcon/commodore. Hopefully it will annihilate the camry though. Go mitusbishi!

Yes sorry, it was a VZ. Base model so im assuming the 175kw alloytec, by the way the 380 will be 175kw/334nm throughout the range.

WOW, just WOW. A fresh face, new powerful engine, and new interior, what else do you want?
Magnas used to accelerate faster than the falcon/commdore 6 from before 2002. i wouldnt be surprised if they start out accelerating the current 6's from ford/holden. way to go mitsubishi!

:hmmm: I expected more to be honest. The car looks a lot better integrated than the one it replaces but I dunno... The VRX and GT look ok, probably will look better in real life. I don't mind mitsi's, they make a quality product but whether its enough to sway buyers I'm not sure. They definitely need more grunt in the gofast models, stupid having the base model as your fastest only because its the lightest. Guess only time will tell.

Meh.
I was expecting a better looking car. It tapers off on the sides at the back too much. Interior looks ok though. Still a huge leap over the old feral looking Magna.

P.S. I also agree with others, 1st thing i thought when i saw it was an old Liberty.

Just saw base model photos, not that good-lookin after all. the VRX and GT model are the pick of the litter for me.

Having seen all the photos now, I am disappointed. I expected much, much more than what appears on the surface to be only a bit of a shift from the current styling.

I appreciate they didn't have a lot of money to play with but with the VE and revised Falcon (and the camry) around the corner I think they are in a lot of trouble.

Given the fact that Mitsubishi has been a loss maker locally for years and there is no more money in the HQ coffers, this was supposed to be the car that changed their fortunes.

Sad to say but this is not that car. :(

Time will tell - problem is that Mitsubishi is the first to release the next generation of cars, so it may date quickly.

However, Mitsubishi traditionally has had a pretty good build quality, and usually pretty good value too - if the price is right it will do really well - at least the VRX will. If you have a look around there are a tonne of TL VRXs (the boulay nosed one) on the road. It's old nemsis is due to come out soon, and Im sure Toyota has been able to spend some big bucks too - although the next camry will lose the v6 -only the avalon replacement will have the v6.

Additionally with any luck quite a few consumers will take to the GT/VRX in the same way XR6 sales account for a larger proportion of falcon sales than what they used to, eating into the XT's sales. A sale of a baseline model is great, the sale of an upper spec model is better.

Hard to call from pics, need really to see in real steel,...for a long time now a black cloud over the whole Aust. side of operations. Didn't the Aust. government sink several million dollars in a rescue/insentive plan to keep the plant going in Australia a couple of years back ?????
by the by,....is that Rachelle Splatt in the last pic ????..heard a rumour of the team trying to put something together for top fuel.
