Guys,
I am looking at replacing my gearbox oil and have done a bit of reading of previous oil threads and that some brands assist a heap more than others in gearbox noise reduction. These are the oils i have read the ppl use and like.

Mainlube 151 SAE 75w90 Solid boundary EP gear oil - i read somewhere that this has polymeric ball bearings in it that helps reduce noise.
Castrol Transmax Z
Redline light

Has anyone noticed a reduction in noise using these oils? Is the mainlube a synthetic ATF oil? Apart from different oils is there anyway apart from replacing the gearbox, to help with noise levels? Where is the best place to purchase from?

I had the Castrol Transmax Z put in my VYII M6 around a thousand k's ago.

It has definitely reduced the noise levels, probably around 30% or so, mostly noticable at idle and at mild throttle openings, although mine does occasionally have a bit of whine come out of 2nd gear...

It helps to make the car feel a little more refined through its reduction in NVH levels...

Shift quality has probably improved marginally too.

Well worth doing IMHO even for peace of mind for gearbox durability and longevity...

I tried to find out some more info on the Mainlube from the guy on here that was sprouting about it, but he doesn't seem interested in anybody's questions...

The only negative input I can get from anywhere for using EP Gear oils for the T56 is the carbon Syncros, has anyone seen this so called damage in this area from EP Gear oils??

I'm asking James Brock all the time, when ever they have a T56 out of one of the utes, "is the any damage or marks on the Syncros what so ever??" and the answer is always no. Now over 2 years in the same boxes and no damage at all, it better hurry up soon or I'll be too old to care if it does.

I can't vouch for other older type oils however, the ones we are using from our Mainlube range (full synthetic PAO) are running with no issues at all. Wear and noise levels have been reduced dramatically, the change is much smoother as well.

I would expect other modern brands of E P Gear Oils with the simular base oil and additive package would react the same.
