First up - message to the older members that were knocking the last few people that were talking about the Gilmer setup in a NA car - dont post here. :p

I got this info from a speed shop in Mackay (QLD). He's sourced the following Gilmer gear:
Crank pulley
Power steer pulley
Alternator pulley
Tensioner pulley
Belt
all for the LS1. Now, I'd like one of these...certainly look nice under the bonnet. Here's the catch - for him to be bothered bringing the gear over from the states, he wants 3 orders for em at minimum. So, I'm hoping those people talking about Gilmer setups before weren't having pipe dreams and will at least contact this guy for more info. Cost for the entire kit is $1500 + freight. Here's his details:

Is there any genuine hp gains with this as $1500.00 seems a little steep ??

It's funny you post this felony as i was looking for a new belt for my blower on the net today and found quite a few sites selling these types of kits for the ls1.

Seeing as my blower uses a "gilmer" type drive system my only advice to you is. "If it aint Broke, Don't Fix IT!" gilmer drives are a pain in the ass and belts are very expensive when they break.

Yea Dave - your belts are around 90 a pop? But you've only broken 1 so far?

So if 3 people place an order do we get a group discount or what? What about if ur from syd who is gonna do the install?

That IS the discount. As I said, it's not worth his while ordering 1. 3 is the minimum at that price, and it doesn't include install. You get your own mechanic to install it, or do it yourself.

err have i missed something here? whats the benefit of runnin gilmer belts/pulleys etc. is it just for the extra noise they will make to maybe fool people into thinkin you have a blower under there. and anyway wouldnt you lose hp as these things take a little more to turn?

I cannot see any need for a gilmer pulley on the water pump as it is driven by the back of the belt, or are they running a a double sided belt ??

Also it must come with a new balancer as the pulleys are not removable on the LS1 ?

G'Day,

Sorry Felony, I am not barred, so I can post. Only my Mum tells me what to do.

If you want to spend close to $2000, "$1500 Bits, Labour, Balancer?" there are plenty of options you could get much more enjoyment out of.
EG;

Extractors and reasonable system.
Maffless Tune, OTRCAI.
Diff set and Shift Kit
Stally
etc. etc. etc.
Price wise I am only guestimating!

Point is, all of this will improve performance and have a positive effect on the driveability of the car.

I am not having a go at your post, but I know one of the functions of this Forum is to provide guidance to folk who are just starting out.
I would not like to see someone go out and spend that sort of $$$ without knowing what some of the options may be.

Go in with "EYES WIDE OPEN", that is all I am suggesting.

Cheers,

Hogs, :)

2 now, but it seems to be due to a incorrect size belt. Have a smaller one arriving this week. :D

Interesting piece on this by KB in Street Machine,
basically saying that it is old hat in a street driven car
and that serpentine belt is a far better and more reliable
setup. Leave it for the race cars he says.
