Hi all, posting in the general section because if i post in the Classifieds all the posts have to be approved.
Anyway, My Dad's looking at getting a 2 post hoist for his new shed and he wants to know what sort or pricing / brands are available, what he should expect to pay both brand new or second hand.
And if anyone knows of any good deals in or around Perth to let me know.
Cheers :D

im in the same position, when im ready to go i'll pm fatas, who sells Molex lifters amongst others.
the two post hoist with the cables between them at the top is better i feel, as you don't need to drive over the cable tidy to get the car into position

Cheers :DTecalemit is by far the best brand I've used & for the use intended will last forever. We've used them for over 25 years as well as some other brands.New will cost somewhere in the region of $4500,secondhand will set you back $2000-$2500 but beware as to replace worn screws will cost you about $1000 if old & worn out.Someone like Repco would be your best option for purchase.
Cheers Glenn
PM fatas, he sells and services hoists

try molnar hoists, theyre great and very reliable, we have all types of hoist at work and molnar wins the votes, we have 10 molnar hoists. i think new about 4g secondhand 1500-2000. repco and motor traders have got a special on the molnar overhead cables this month.

i recommend that you talk to a person that installs and services hoist in your area ,they know whats around s/h because they normally remove /replace them . i rang my local fella , he put me onto a s/h aussie lift 2 post hoist $1300 , he suggested that instead of getting 3 phase power , that i could buy from a local bearing shop a 3 h/p 240 volt motor , which i bought $275 +gst , he fitted the motor , installed and serviced the hoist $500+gst
total $2400 including electrician ,what a bargain

Be careful buying 2nd hand as sometimes the cost of repairing one can cost as much as the purchase, which may run close to the cost of a new one.
You also have to be careful about whether you are going to use 240v or 3 phase, most workshop hoist are 3 phase and not many houses have 3 phase, so that may cut down the 2nd hand market quite a bit, some new hoists are capable of being purchased as a 240 volt option.

personally I've used both the molnar and the telcamit. Despite my personal dealings with the molnar family, I prefer the telcamit.

MOLNAR OR TEC ? both are good new 2 post clear floor or over head hoist - no hump to drive over - cost $6600 inc gst i can sell both brands as i am authorised molnar and tec agent, i think molnar is better as they dont have a plc or computer that run it the tec has, a new one will last for ever a s/ hand one is a good move but be very very careful as some so called 5 year old hoists can turn out to be 15 to 20 years old and have done lots of work.
pm me or ring me and i will help anyone over the phone .
REMEMBER your car weighs 1.6 + ton and when it is 2 meters of the ground and above your head there is no room for complacenty or a she will be right attitude. :)

My personal preference would be the Rotary brand 2 poster, has overhead support beam so no hump in the middle. another good feature is 2 long arms and 2 short ones which allows all 4 doors to be open whilst the car is on the hoist.

Having both installed over many years Tec gets my vote hands down.
The Mol is the worst investment I have made....hydraulic over cable is crap compared with the screw of the Tec. ;)

I had excellent service out of Tec's but never tried Molnar. But, as a home workshop thing as distinct from a commercial application, provided always that it was serviceable and safe, I'd think that price would be the determining factor..

ARE ROTARYS AUSTRALIAN APPROVED AND DO THEY HAVE A C.E NUMBER ? They are a good hoist but are now made under licence in korea and the quality is slipping bad  also the price of them is high and there is not much after sales service.
tec,s are good but if you have a black out your car is stuck were it is  molnars have come a long way in the last 3 years and you get longer life out of hydraulic over cable than you do screw hoists but tec,s are safer and have less moving parts :D I WILL JUST SIT ON THE FENCE AND SELL WHAT EVER ANY ONE WANTS. :D
What are peoples reccomendation as to 2 or 4-post? Can you still buy 4-post new or have the 2-posters pretty much suceeded the 4.
4-post would probably be more suitable to existing garages, as I know the 2 posters req. a minimum of 150mm thick concrete. A std garage slab is only 100mm.
Fatas, I presume you sell in NSW, any reccomendations as to vic dealers?
What brands can be purchased as a 240v model?

With the right dyna bolts or tru bolts you can get away on a 4'' slab for either a 2 or 4 poster you can still buy both 2 and 4 post hoists if you want to hang the car ie no wheels on it a 2 poster is far cheaper and better you can do it on a 4 poster but costs a fortune as you have to buy 2 jacking beams that slide up and down the hoist.
pm me as i dont want to get the mods off side :) i can help any one just a pm or call RICHARD ;) 0402272944
