Hi Guys,

This is simply an exploratory question, that really probably lies with the bean counters- but curiosity has provailed after a number of years of watching holdens leave the production line, knowing full well that GM globally do have the purchasing power to make this work.

Q: Is there any reason that GM do not OEM real sports components for their vehicles?

I should qualify that there are numerous parts that GM do OEM, but i mean in terms of longevity and performance, particularly on SS and HSV range vehicles (GTS & Grange aside)

For example, why are GM still using PBR calipers and rotars? surely a job like that is best left to a real brake company such as AP or Brembo?

Why are our steering wheels not OEM'd from MOMO, for example.

interior seating (at least driver & passenger) could be Recaro?

And so the list could go on - however, i'm sure you get my point.

I am curious, becuase i have been driving Holdens for over 10 years now - and apart from the very obvious "feature cascade" strategy; i have been bitterly disspointed with the life span of parts that GM DONT make. It leaves a bitter taste, adding to the fact that we see manufacturers like Subaru & Nissan using these OEM suppliers on cars that cost numbers of thousands of dollars less than a Holden/HSV badged car.

Cheers Guys,
