Came accross this article in the local paper. Thought it was an interesting read and had to share it on here. I've done a search but found nothing mentioning about this so here it is. if it has been posted, mods, please remove this thread. Thanks.

"Cruising down to Calder Park.

Muslecars and legal offstreet car racing will take centre stage at Calder Park next year. Music concerts, championship car racing, rallies and summer cruise and movie nights are also among major events planned at the venue in 2006, announced today.
Calder Park Raceway owner and chairman Bob Jane said he stopped running big events in 1999 after two insurers that covered major races went bankrupt. But with a new public liability insurance policy Calder Park was now back on track, he said. "Calder Park Raceway is poised to re-establish itself as an entertainment powerhouse with a wide variety of events planned for 2006 and beyong." Mr Jane said.
A decision to reintroduce Auscar racing would be made next year, but new Musclecar and rally events were going ahead, he said. Musclecars, including Mustangs and Monaros, will power into Calder Park for the Musclecar Nationals, from March 25 to 28. Mr Jane said it would be the country's largest gathering of factory-built high performance cars.
"Fans and entrants will be treated to a Show 'n' Shine where Australia's most immaculately prepared musclecars will be displayed," he said. Drivers will be able to test themselves on the Thunderdome, drag strip and more during a new tarmac rally known as the National Rally Masters on March 11 and 12.
"The action will be nonstop, with no less than three competition areas operating simultaneously throughout both days," Mr Jane said. He said three rounds of the Victorian Motor Racing Championships would be held at Calder Park, which is also set to host music concerts.
He said he had been approached by "leading entertainment promoters" to stage local and international artists. And there would be legal off-street drag racing each Friday night, he said.

Sounds interesting hey? Even concerts to be held there, but whats the most important i guess is that they'll hopefully have those backroads coming back up after the 1/4 mile run fixed up.  ;)

Cheers... :D
