Can a mafless tuned car drop its tune off and return to factory pcm settings? Can the local holden dealer do a pcm reset and loose your tune? What are the only ways a tune can be lost?
If a car has been sitting a while without being driven could this cause the car to loose the tune? Has anyone ever lost there tune?
Any thoughts on this guys
JB
The dealer can do a reflash of an updated program and this will wipe your edit, software updates during servicing can and DO occur.

I thought most tuners worth their salt, such as some of our forum sponsers :D , cant have their tune detected or over-ridden?

Sure it can be locked so that it cannot be read but with a Tech II it can be reflashed.

i didnt think tech 2 could override? Wheres a tuner when ya need em :p ...the advice from Delco i have had has told me this anyway.
Hi Cosmo,
Give your LS1 Edit Supplier a call. I wonder if he'll reload the program for a nominal figure?
Maybe I'm thinking of a standard Mail Order Tune and a specific forum sponsor?
In any case, it's worth a try. If the supplier keeps a copy of your custom tune, it would be nice if he'd reload it for a small service charge (given that you've already paid for the dyno time.
I suspect that a way aroind this problem is to pick up a spare computer from a wrecker, using this to load the LS1 Edit. The original computer can then be installed at service time. It also enables the edit to be sold separately if you decide to sell the car.
It would be nice if the LS1 Edit program could be burnt onto a CD for safe-keeping just in case the dealer wipes the Edit program. I wonder if this is possible?

If it was locked with LS1edit then Tech II could reflash it. If it is locked with any other software Tech II can not re-flash it.

If you think just maybe your tune has been overwritten, give your tuner a call so they can reflash your tune back in.

does it matter? any tuner worth their salt will keep your exact tune on file, and reflash it for no charge should you lose it.

I thought the tune on my car had been over-written, but it was in fact due to the PCM using the lowest setting in the octane table, screwing up the timing. Ran like a dog and used heaps of fuel. Wandered off to the tuner and got it sorted. What I did'nt like, was what he told me could cause it:
1. Bad fuel
Nope, had run sweet before the service and I dropped it off with 1/2 a tank
2. A sound thrashing...
Nice. never going back there again.

This might be stupid but if it was Mafless wouldn't the Dealer need the MAF in order for it to run properly putting a standard map back into it??

That's exactly what I was thinking, surely it's gonna
run like a dog if at all with standard tune and no maf.

From what I gather, a Holden re-flashed PCM will run in a 'safe' mode when the MAF sensor fails. This will obviously throw an error code, but will allow the car to drive, might be rich as, but it will be drivable. And obvously the power will be down..
But the original tuner should help you out in that situation..
Hopefully the dealer is good enough to know your vehicle, and notice that you dont have a MAF (in the case of Mafless) and realise that the car has been tuned..
Not to mention some dealers are even mentioning to customers the possibility of ls1edit upon purchasing a vehicle..

If you have the LS1 Edit (w/ MAF), can a Holden dealer still hook their computer up and read what error is causing engine lights (even though the engine light isn't always on) - and can this reset your edit?

An interesting comment Snappa,
It will be more interesting to see if the same dealer looks after the customer with the PCM Edit if there's a need to make a warranty claim.
A few dealers run for the hills at the mention of anything that might be frowned upon by Holden. I gave a local dealer a try-out. I asked if they'd fit a cat back system. The guy I spoke to said "yes" (but he wasn't the service boss). I then asked if they'd fit a set of extractors - not chance!!
It would be good to know of dealers who say they'll look after customers' warranty issues after an edit. It would be better to know of dealers who HAVE looked after customers' warranty issues after an edit. They're probably out there. I don't have an edit so I can't speak from experience.
