I hardly ever drive in fog and with Seldo's low beam conversion no longer use the foggies on the SS to supplement low beam. Have had driving lights wired to come on with high beam on almost every car I've had since the early 70's (inc. the SV8) so am wanting to replace the foggies with decent driving lights.

There must be others who have done the same. What lights did you use that fit perfectly in place of the foggies and how good are they?

Thanks,
Gary

What did you do on the SV8? I'd be interested in driving lights for mine too?

I used some slimline, rectangular Hellas. Have always tended to use Hellas as have usually found them to be good. These though were a bit disappointing - certainly better than nothing but not as much extra light as I had hoped for. Had to remove a small section of grille for each light but that was easy.

Main problem I had was getting them wired up to come on with high beam. Used to do all the wiring myself but with the modular electronics on these cars had no idea so took it to one of the local auto elecs. He couldn't work it out in a couple of visits (didn't charge me) even though I got hold of the official Holden wiring diagrams, so ended up taking it somewhere else to be done. Think it cost me $30 including a relay. First guy must have seen the writing on the wall and has since sold the business.

PM me your email address if you want me to send you some pics of the car with the driving lights fitted.

I had a look at doing this when I got the VY SS and it seems no-one makes a bolt up solution. If it has been done, I would also love to know.

One thing I know, HSV went to some effort to make sure thier driving lights are not plug-and-play. :?

The SS foggies are made by a mob in Korea who apparently don't have any equivalent driving lights for sale (over here at least) so looks like we have to find something of equivalent size and figure out how to best mount them.

I dont know if this is any help but when I had the VZ SS front fitted, the panel shop phoned me and asked if I wanted the fog lamps fitted or driving lights, I just told him stay with the fog (duller) lights, when I picked up the car, he told me the brighter driving lights only come with the factory nudge bar upgrade. this all doesn't sound right but thats what he told me.

Contack Narva OR look at their online catalogue.

www.narva.com.au

They were the importers of the SS fogs of glare. Unintended on their part however.

The lamps are 80mm I think and you could replace them with 80mm driving lights (see that catalogue) OR you could keep the fogs AND use them for that purpose, should conditions warrant.

They are not intended to supplement low-beam.

Your headlights already have a driving light compartment, and adding D/L's below the bumper would not perform as well as sat those installed on a light bar at plate height.
