I believe that HSV's negotiations with Holden will be successful, in that they will gain approval for limited production of Coupes to continue until approximately June 2006, so that they can continue to manufacture their GTO for Australia, & the VXR Monaro for European markets, until then. I think an announcement to this effect may be made at the Sydney Motor Show. I would also like to think that HSV would do some sort of engine upgrade, as a "Last Hurrah" to the Coupe, but I don't think that will happen. What have you guys heard, or what are your predictions? Cheers, Pickles.

Top gear has announced Vauxhall's end of Monaro after they reviewed the VRX's drifting capabilities.

Also if Holden were to keep producing the car - why not keep selling the Monaro ?

Doesn't add up completely. Time will tell.

James May also said that there were enough to last until the middle of next year, so they most likely will be getting more between now and then. I heard through the grape vine that Holden were not thrilled about that little reveal on Top Gear either, as they had already agreed to supply Vauxhall until mid next year.

Not that Top Gear would be fussed about that, in the same segment they went on to talk about the new Aston Marton Vantage which was under embargo at the time (geez that was funny.........."oh I would have loved to'ave heard that"...........   ).

Also, there is a 2006 Pontiac GTO with 18000 expected orders, so they definately will be making coupes. But the real question is will they continue to make them for HSV ?, I think they will.

I have also read (in the latest Australian Muscle Car) that HSV have a special model in line, light on body mods, along the lines of what many had hoped the last Monaro would have been. Hopefully HSV let the cat out of the bag at the Motor Show. (fingers crossed)

I believe the truth behind the Monaros untimely demise lies somewhere between the arrangement that the LS2 was a HSV only motor, the LS1 in Monaro did not comply with 2006 emissions and the desire for Monaro to die young and popular. Booo I say, but they didn't ask me.

So are they killing off the SS and SV8 for next year also??

I don't think that's the real reason. I don't think any reason is really good enough to kill off the Monaro...

I don't think that's the real reason. I don't think any reason is really good enough to kill off the Monaro...

I heard or read (can't remember which) an interesting phrase used to describe this emission compliance. It went something like "the LS1 in the Monaro did not meet 2006 emisions standards." It gave me the impression that the problem was Monaro specific.

Not understanding how you actually achieve compliance with these emissions standards I thought it was possible that Holden had to take each car through a very expensive testing procedure OR perhaps there was something specific about the installation in the Monaro that was problematic. Either way without treading on HSV's toes and slotting in an LS2 it could not be justified financially for just a 6 month run. Don't forget when Holden intoduced the Monaro they said it would be a limited run, in reality thanks to Pontiac we probably got it for an extra year or so (vz).

It may well be that I just read too much into that phrasing, but it kinda makes sense to me.....not that I agree with it. I still feel robbed that HSV denied us LS2 Monaros, if Pontiac got the LS2 so should have we. Anyway, what are you going to do.................

Cheers

Like I mused in another thread.. I don't think HSV dictate terms to Holden... If Holden want the LS2 behind a Holden badge, they'll take it. I don't think HSV has anything at all to do with the LS2 making or not making an appearance in future Holdens.

HSV haven't denied you an LS2 Monaro.. Holden have.

Correction... denied US an LS2 Monaro.. :D

You're probably right about the Holden/HSV relationship, even though it has been touted about as a reason with regularity. I'm sure if Holden actually wanted it HSV would have no say in the matter.

Regardless, it's hard to hate 'em though eh, just slightly miffed. :D :D
