As mentioned in the GoAuto article, with the release of the new Turbo Astra due in a few months (Jan 2006), and the smart looking Tigra already released, those concerned with fuel prices but wanting to buy Holden can opt for a small car with performance (Turbo Astra) or a car with that bit extra style (Tigra).

Although the six cylinder will take a slight beating, I can't see it continuing for much longer as family cars will always be a significant market as long as people continue to pump out kids. You can't fit them and all their sporting equipment in a mazda 3 eh?

Anyway what's lost in family car sales should flow into the small car market. With the popularity of the Astra (fifth in car sales) should see Holden gain some lost ground with cars like the Turbo Astra and Tigra.

I think that it is just trends ,at the moment it's going away from large sedans. alot of manufacturers have released some very good small & mid size cars , and people have voted with their wallets.if holden release the VE for example and its a great looking thing of good quality, with good drivability,& features - people will buy it . Petrol price will not drive people into small cars just yet.Having said that the Holdens and Fords of this world can not afford to peddle lacklustre offerings anymore.

Not surprised one bit, petrol goes up, who really needs a 4 door that seats 5 these days?

GM, build a dedicated lpg Commo ffs is you want to remain in the market, if not something small, 2 doors , rear drive with a options of a 4, 6 or V8, I hate 2 door Commodores!!!!

I don't need 4 doors (I don't even need 2 doors), but I do need a big car that's capable of towing a heavy load and fitting large items inside. A 4 cylinder will never be able to do that, well at least not in the near future.
