Yesterday got an
average 9.7L/100km at 110kph over a 15km long stint on the M4
Today
average 9.0L/100km at 87kph over a 10km stretch - the average of both directions. This was in 25 degree intake air.

The car used to get closer to 10 and 10.8 at the same speeds. The only mods are Ported Heads at 10.7:1 and new SVO injectors and Platinum Plugs gapped at 1mm

In closed loop the tune is the same - it is just searching for 14.7:1 AFR at cruise.

Heads like these are supposed to work in cars with standard cams as well. So it may be a worthwhile mod for people wanting more power and economy with no loss in driveability.

Are you sure that your trip computer has been recalibrated for the higher flowing injectors, and is giving a true reading?.

Statie,

That is a very good point.

Bigger injectors will through out the trip computer calibrations.

Good idea i will need to look into this. The table of flow rates were entered into the tune. But we will look into checking the trip computer calibration just in case - will make sure it is spot on - have done this before.

I just recalled that i did test the fuel economy on the M5 at 100kph and got 10.0L/100km over 15km or so, straight after picking the car up with the new heads. This was before the injectors and before any changes to the tune.

But will be checking over a few tank fulls the calibration anyway.

I just did a 7600 km trip in mine and with the cruise on 90% of the time and with city driving factored in I got 10.2 average. VY A4. :D

Oztrack, is it just me or do you try and post something daily that you think your car is best or exceptional at, there have been a hundred threads on fuel economy and there are plenty of people still running into the 9's with cams, turbos etc etc.

And if you are going to quote economy try it over a decent distance like 1000+ kms anyone can get good economy going along the M4 for 10kms. I can get 9's over the trip from traralgon to sydney going thru canberra and i dont drive for economy and neither does my partner.

Different strokes for different folks I guess  ,personally I read oztracks updates
on his new modifications and there corresponding effects on both performance and economy as invaluable input..more so for any newer members who may be contemplating similar mods to there own vehicle...
just my view

Just finished the tank and the calibration is fine. So the figures are accurate.

It just averaged 15.2L/100km at an average of 53kph over a whole tank. Thats almost 19MPG and it had a decent amount fair bit of WOT in it - ask Lautray he was one of the riders. That afternoon blew the average out from 13.3L/100km and into the 15s.

ProVK its just a sharing of data - im not trying to sell anything or be the best pisser. Im sure there are many LS1s with better economy and many that are faster. My goal was to do both - maybe there are others out there that this info will help to make their decision about modifications or even buying an LS1. I learned what to do with my car from reading posts like i post.
