There are no Stupid questions, only stupid answers :)
A V8 supercar is powered by either a 5L Ford SVO or Chev Aurora race engine (depending on the make) which produces approximately 650hp. Engines are have pushrod actuated valves and electronic fuel injection. Both Ford and Holden engines are based on racing engines from their respective US parent companies. Engines are restricted to 7500 rpm. The recent application of "Project Blueprint" (where both makes of car were examined to insure parity) the racing between Holden and Ford has become closer than ever (reducing the risk of a one make dominated series).
More details can be found here.

They should use the LS1/2 and the Boss V8. Then we would really see which car maker is quicker :p

since the question is answered. i'll bring up another point
amazing how many ppl think the V8 supercars are siimiliar to the road cars.
when in fact the only thing thats the same is the basic shell (which is fully reworked), shape of the body and the lights. everything else has no road going parts in common. all running gear is replaced with something else.
so really to say a ford or Holden wins all the time they are a better car to buy has no merit.
if you want to compare something closer to road cars you have to go to other classes of racing

Even then it can be dodgy at times with the tricks the teams/owner's do to the cars and mask it up so the scrutineers don't see it or it look right but it's not.

thats not true mate
i asked G Tander when he took me for some laps in the 427 at WillowWank if all the teams played by the rules , and he said yes there was no cheating
BTW...i still get tingling in my spine thinking about that day and THAT car
if there was one for sale that day i would have bought it

They run the manufactures engine; LS1 and Ford 5.4 twin-cam V8. They also play with engine management etc - so the engine can be tuned, but must be stock otherwise. For parity, because the LS1 is such a high revving powerhouse :D, the LS1s are rev limited to 5500rpm in the name of parity.

I don't think the ford utes use the boss motor and also the supercars do not even use a standard shell, the have panels fixed to a roll cage / chassis assembly

that's what i thought. i was reading in australian muscle car mag about one of the old vs or vt supercars. it is still getting around, but now as a vz.

If they are AUs (which I think many are now that I think about it) then you are right - they would be running the 5.0L Windsor. When/if they are running BA utes they would be running the Boss, as the class is essentially a production racing class with some suspension and exhaust mods and slicks.

All the Ford ute's in this this series look like BA's. But the fact of the matter is that they are mostly AU's with a facelift and they all still run a Windsor pushrod motor.

The brute utes are not a production based class, it is a parity class to try to keep the cars performance even, so they should have a fairly even chance of winning, similar to the V8 supercars, still don't think the BA utes use the Boss motor though
