Hi ppl,

Just posting so that you guys dont waste your time with discountnewcars.com.au.

These days, just about every car listed on the site does not have a disount disclosed.. Instead your told to leave your details to be offered a discount. Then you get a call from a very aggressive salesman from the nearest dealer who then tries to sell you the car for full retail price plus on roads. Then its a matter of going through the standard bargaining process.

I tried to go through the site in relation to an MX-5 and the salesman refused to give me a discount because "these cars are the hottest thing in town", "our margins are too thin" and "our supply of these cars is only 1,000" the usual excuses.

So in the end his best offer was retail price plus full on roads. Conclusion: stay away from that website its a joke.

I tried to use these guys when I bought the Berlina - basically had two things happen:

1) Submit details of the car I wanted, no-one responded. Guy from the web site emails me to ask if anyone has responded, I say no.
2) Eventually a Sydney dealer sends me an email with a price barely below RRP. I thank him for his time and leave it at that.

I then go to my local Holden dealer and get a price thousands below the quote from the Sydney guy.

I agreee, this website is a joke.

I used it ages ago.... I think it was better then but it still sucked doodles. I just rang the dealer and said that the web site offered X off and he said no worries I'll beat that.

I don't think their business model was too much of a success... maybe they just get a referal fee or something now. The most important thing seems to be getting a hold of your details..... car sales does a similar thing for used cars - it won't tell you what dealer it's at until you enter your details so they can hassle you. I've had emails back saying - sorry couldnt contact you on 03-12345678.... derrrr :D damn those required fields :p

Oh and in regard to the dealer being arrogant just because a model sells well.... I had the Ford dealer tell me I couldn't even have one at full price when the BA's came out (cause there was a whole two month backlog - now who's laughing)- and the other week the VW dealer said if I wanted a GTi I'd have to wait 7 months, pay full RRP, wouldnt offer me a trade in... and said prob couldnt even choose the colour or options. Oh, and he said he couldn't get me a test drive in one either. Made it sound like it was my loss if I didn't put in an order there and then. I just walked away... he didnt even ask for my contact details.

Mate, if you think you can treat me like that and then get me to give you 50 gorilla's... somebody must be dreamin :D

Problem with dealers is they can't see further than their next shipment of cars.
