Has anyone had or know of anyone who has had their adventra/avalanche/cross8 on fraser island. I would be interested to hear any feedback.
Cheers :D

I was only asking this while I was over there last week, great 5 days :) Personally If they wanted to do any proper trips to the cape etc, they wouldnt have a chance as the tracks arent made for lowish type cars..

Yeah i agree, just interested how they handle hard or soft sand. Ive done plenty of dirt roads & muddy grassed areas without hassle. :D

They did a story on a cross 8 in one of the 4wd mags back when they first came out and took it on stockton beach
It had to be towed onto the beach after being stuck but after hitting the firmer sand ( the entry track is really soft) it did very well
BUT it had to be towed back off
depending on conditions on the island though you could possibly go on at kingfisher resort then do the direct track accross to the east side
I would look into recovery costs first though as when we were there last it cost a couple of hundred dollors for the professionals to recover you
If you do go there let us know as i have a freind who would be keen to do it if possible

I have seen Commodore exec wagons on Fraser.... but the Kingfisher resort complex doesn't count, rite? ;)
Have seen an CX8 adventura on the barge, can't say for sure if they went across the island but I suspect so as it was plenty sandy!
For the potential damage / wear & tear to such a vehicle (which is, ultimately, not suited to a substantial amount of the terrain on the island) it is a much better bet IMHO to rent a trasher troopy from a 4wd hire company in Hervey Bay.

excuse the ignorance, but can you go savage with the car on the beaches there? i want photos of dirt flying up next to the water, as opposed to the usual dry dirt rally photos.

Not sure about a standard Adventra, I have hit the brakes in several places and bogged mine to the sills, (just to see) then just stood on it and it kinda levitates up 6 inches all round, throws out 100 ft rooster tails and farks off at a great rate of knots. :D (make sure the windows are up or a couple a buckets of sand will land on your lap off the front wheels)
Haven't been able to get it stuck yet.
I expect the Avalanche would perform quite well on deep sand, it's a question of grunt, you need to shift a lot of dirt/sand quickly.
I don't know if the standard Adventra has what it takes to pull it's self out of these conditions.
You would only need these tactics in severe circumstances.
In general I think you would be fine.
Same with mud.

Well, while I was over there, was only last week, there was 4 4x4's and we got bogged a few times and pulled allot of people out, the sand is very soft and full of rutts as they havent had rain there for months, was still a great trip and well worth it.
I have pics to..

If you try and drive it with the fuse in, it has a habbit of slamming the brakes on hard, locking all 4 wheels, brake pedal goes solid with no free play at all, and the only way to get the brakes off is to switch off all for 5 seconds, turn back on and all is well again.
Kinda gets a bit confused
