Hi All,
Has anyone received their copy of the latest edition of Motor magazine? I usually get my copy on the Monday of the week it is released, but haven't seen hide nor hair of it this week. The few newsagents that I have checked don't have any in stock either. Last months edition said the new one would be out on Wednesday October 12th. Tried ringing the subscription company, but was left on a phone queue for too long.
Anyone seen it around or know what the deal is??
Thanks.

Maybe it's just late in Victoria. I've had mine for 3 days or so.

Searched everywhere in the Sutherland Shire yesterday and today but can't find it. :(
I'm also in NSW (Sutherland area like msnealo) and haven't got my copy yet. It usually arrives on the day of release for me.
Cheers,
- Febs.

We are talking the November issue right (with the BF FPVs on the front)? I almost never get mine early, but somehow I have.

The most likely explanation is that is was delayed because of some embargo on releasing information before the unveling at the Motor Show.

A few must have slipped out before this happened then.

No doubt. A judgement would have been made on when to send them so they arrived not before the start of the Motor Show.
Pure speculation on my part, but I think probably valid. Now if there was just some way us Queenslanders could receive our copies in a timely manner...

Had a quick look through it at the local 7-11, (ignored the front cover and went straight to the ve spy shots). Noticed something very interesting -Quote: "In a shock to Ford, upper models such as SS calais and Statesman will be using the same ZF six speed auto"
I had always thought they would be using the 6L80E... maybe that will be left for the base models????

any mention of when the apparent ZF plant will be built here in OZ?

Not that I can see. That one sentence that vzsv6 quoted was all it said.

I was led to believe that that ZF plant was just making minor components and not whole transmissions. Although Gorman did say at Bathurst that the new 6-speed auto was Aussie built, but I'd assumed that it was a mouth-typo.

Do you know what I hate?
I hate being a sub of Motor Magazine and looking at it for 1 week in the newspaper stands before I get it in the mail box.
I got a letter the other day requesting some more money, as my sub is due to expire in December, stuff it, I'll pay the extra and read the Motor gossip 1 to 1.5 weeks early.
You would think in the year 2005, magazines like Motor would have their shit in a pile, but I guess it is probably somebody elses false, blame the frieght company or the post office, what ever!
The same problem happens with Australian Muscle Car.
Hey, I feel better after that quick WEB bitch, thanks.

Is there even any significant saving in subscribing anymore? I never subscribed to it because i dont think the saving was very much and i would rather pick and choose which editions to buy. In the last six months i havnt bought it at all as it has just been the same recycled re-matches over and over again - as for the bike story they were quite delusional - why dont they run new 0-100 and 400m times when they retest cars instead of using the old figures (everyone wants to see what the best times are after all) and why dont they update the info in the back of the mag  grrrr

Yep agreed . No significant saving last time i looked was around $5 per year , so may as go to the newsagent and cherry pick what you want to buy .If nothing in it buy something else . Applies to most magazines .I think the magazine publishing industry has suffered like most other industries - too much competition in this day an age

Who needs magazines in this day and age with the internet? I used to buy every single edition but these days have a rare flick through at the shops only if there's something interesting, such as the ve spy pics.. Half of it is not worth the paper its printed on, and besides, who would pay $7+ or whatever over inflated price they're charging these days?
I never buy MOTOR anymore. I just read through the whole thing at Coles/Woolworths when the other half is doing the shopping.
WHEELS seems to be much better these days. Journo's like Peter Robinson are amongst the most experienced in their field. And unlike most of those Bogan's writing for MOTOR, the guys at WHEELS are actually exposed to many overseas developments.

Received my copy today. Few interesting articles in there. M5 vs Gallardo.
Good to see Motor has gone back to the "cardboardy" type covers instead of the glossy stuff from last month.

Still waiting in Brisbane. Maybe tomorrow, pretty please, Motor fairy?
I had to have my copy redirected to a different letterbox because the postie, god bless his/her soul, can't seem to see the round magazine holder on the side of the box.
Instead they are bending it in half and shoving it in through a slot about an inch wide with all the other mail.
Sigh. Lucky for good neighbours!

Motor is getting worse and worse as time marches on. You can tell the quality of journalism from the evo writer (Richard Meaden) and the locals, it's light years ahead of the trash that some locals come up with. there's even a letter in the "Write off" section regarding stupid made-up words. and stupid
And what's with them constantly slagging off almost any car maker, and epecially FPV's, because they have a starter button to start the car?? Turn to the index page and THERE'S A FU*KING STARTER BUTTON IN YOUR OWN MAG YA FU*KING MORONS!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sick of hearing about how crap starter buttons are when the hipocrites have one on their own index page.
Speaking of double standards, how do they say the Liberty 3.0R-B is their pick for best sedan under $60k even tho it's "not the sportiest mid-sizer around" (I like the Liberty, but there's F6 Typhoon in that price bracket) yet claim the Renault Sport Clio the winner in the hot hatch category, even tho the MkV Golf GTI is "probably the better long term proposition"?? Can anyone else see some discrepancies here or is it just me who can't see how they award a better "all round" sedan the best pick under $60k, but award the cramped, poorly-built and uglier Clio a category win over the "all around better" GTI??
Glad I'm not a subscriber. I only bought this issue for the M5 articles, and even then, the aussie writers slag it, even tho it's tested very well in europe against even the Ferrari F430, let alone the one-dimensional AMG's (AUTOCAR's words, not mine). They can't come to terms with the SMG (even tho all other journo's around the world seem to be able to cope) and say it's not the sensible supercar they expected, contrary to almost every other revew i've read, like the highly resepcted Autocar, (The only magazine ever granted a full road test review of the McLaren F1) http://www.autocar.co.uk/RoadTest_Summary.asp?RT=212071
Get your shit together guys... We're sick of reading crap.

Now don't get angry at me... BUUUTTT I think that is because BFYB is purely based on performance v's dollar... not comfort or liveability.
BUT, if you ask me the whole BFYB thing is up the shitter. Leaving cars out because they "haven't changed since the last BFYB" is a crock. People want to see a comparison with their cars, OR the cars they are intrested in purchasing in the LATEST BFYB, not try and remember it from the previous BFYB.. against previous cars. I.E if FPV come out with a new car then Holden fans will want a comparison against the current HSV, regardless of whether the HSV has changed since the last one.
Stick the BFYB rules... how about what the customer wants to read ?
Also... making the decision based 100% on how the thing performs on a race track is a crock. Who lives on a race track ? hands up people who live on the opposite side of a race track to where they work ?
I bought a v8 cause some bloody city/town planner decided he would design melbourne roads in a grid and that means I keep driving in straight lines all the time :D
I do want to know bang for your buck... but in a little bit more of a realistic way. I drove the STi after all the praise it got in BFYB.. man that is one car I personally couldnt handle on day to day basis... not in stock form anyway.

Just a few things all conspired against Motor in the latest issue, and a few older problems i wanted to take the opportunity to get off my chest, and i know that Motor staffers frequent this forum, so I figure it'll be heard, unlike emails that get no reply unless it can be published with a witty, clever remark made to belittle the writer.
I just feel ripped off. I'm better off buying Evo... only a few bucks more, and the overall standard is lightyears ahead of Motor right now. Motor can't do any better so they just take their sister magazines articles??? Wheels is also a much better magazine right now.

I'm not talking about BFYB, i mean the section in the back with all the stats about the cars. The liberty wasn't in BFYB. but they've awarded a (very nice) Liberty their best sedan under $60k even tho it's not the most sporting, but don't give it to the Golf for the hot hatch category, even tho they say it's a better long term car.
So they've awarded one car a top pick despite the fact it's not the most sporting in that category, and awarded another a top pick purely because it's a fraction of a percent better on a race track, not an all round performance hot hatch. rules for some and not for others, that appears to be Motor's creed at the moment...
