Can any members please tell me if they too are having pinging issues in Perth or is it just me I have been using Caltex Vortex mostly and seemed to be getting pinging in the higher end of the tacho I have a maffless tune and exhaust with pod set up my tuner yesterday took out a bit more timing but I can still make the car ping if I try we are now running about 22 degrees timing was 24 but now car feels less responsive obviously because of less spark its really starting to sh1t me any advice welcomed.

Thats sucks..who was the tuner ? Are you running two tables for different octane levels ?

sometimes pulling timing out and changing fuel's isn't always the answer daz

i've been down that road before. had the same drama's as you are having with a mafless tune. maf tune was sweet though, not a drama.

i'd say have a look at another tuner.

Gday Daz,
is it pinging when you sort of let it 'labour' up inclines.
Mine runs BP ultimate, same tuner as you, and it does seem to ping sometimes if i've got it at a low throttle up an incline, ie cruising around suburban streets and just gently running up a hill, its much happier if the auto drops back a gear and it gets some revs up. It's certainly not a major probelm though - doesn't happen all that often.

edit - just saw you said the high end of the tacho so it's probably completely different

I'd be steering away from Caltex fuels. I recently had a bad batch from them. With the current price of oil, lots of servos are thinning their petrols, or letting their tanks run to levels lower than they normally do. Honestly, you could drink the stuff that some of the servos are selling as fuel these days.

Does your mafless tune have the hi & lo spark tables? So that if it has a bad batch of fule it can run on the lower octane table until you have better quality fuel.

No high and low spark tables I may go that way but hope I dont constantly drive around on the low spark table because the fuel is crap.
