I have a vy SS series 2 sedan and am sick of having to clean off the bugs off the front of my car.
I was wondering what people think of car bra's and where can I possibly buy a cheap one from??
What does a new one retail for, also where can you get the coloured ones??

The original and the best. I dont have one but a few friends do. They appear to work very well and protect against stone chips etc etc.
Cheers
Jon
I Have one that I use when I drive in the country etc and it works a treat. I always carefully clean it after use and store it in my spare bedroom so as not to crease the persplex etc.

Of course it's going to come down to your driving situation. I sold mine 4 years ago. The cleanliness of the interior of the bra was not worth the effort and it did damage the paint.
Bugs wipe off with eucalyptus oil before washing.
My experience was that i had more chips on the front plastic ( none on the bonnet ) from freeway driving rather than highway driving. Cant put a formulae to it

Never leave home without it, saves on cleaning
and damage. Best thing I ever bought for the car.

Out of curiousity, can you get them custom made? My car has a custom front bar, so a standard bra isn't likely to fit

So having stone chips all over your front bar and
spoiler doesn't make it look like shit. Ahh, you
must have a white car that you don't notice it
on. Also front end respray $800+, Carbra from
Carbra Australia $300 delivered to your door.
The defence rests :)

I was told by Holden, I am going back a few years that they do not recommned using them because they rub against the paint and if you get dust or sand etc. in between you can do an amount of paint damage.
As i said this was a few years ago and paints have improved and most likely the car bra's too so I suppose it is up to yourself what you decide.

Haha that's gold. Why not take it a step further and drive around with a entire car cover on it... :D just cut some holes out to see through :p maybe don't even take the car out of the garage... even better
But seriously, I heard the same thing in regard to people scratching up their paint when dust gets under the bra anyway. You'd have to take a hell of alot of care.
Stone chips are never gonna be as noticeable as a car bra... and a respray is a small price to get to drive the car the way it's meant to look. (If you felt you needed to go as far as a respray).

I'm not going to hide my car away making it look like shit so when I sell it the next owner can appreciate how good it looks without the bra on. That's my opinion, some people love taking great care with their things which is fair enough too. :)

Have you considered a 3M Clear Bra? It's kind of like a contact they stick to the front of the car. It's big in the states and there are people in Aus who do them too.
Have one and use it for country trips, works a treat. Never had any problems with it rubbing on the paint. I felt confident sitting behind trucks waiting for clearance to pass having been hit by stones before doing this, one in fact cracking the plastic bonnet protector. I cannot see any point driving around the city with it. The speed differences when hit by stones and bugs cause more damage and on long trips it is a while before you can get to clean the bugs off for them just to reappear again. I am happy with the $200 I spent.
Evening,
Sorry 346, but I do a fair bit of country driving and got my bonnet resprayed recently for $100, and previously had the front bar done for a similar amount.
$200 - 250, without driving around looking like you have a sleeping bag strapped to the front.
There are two sides to the situation, but for me the cost of my respray, and the appearance of the car on a daily basis makes me lean towards no brasierre.
Cheers,
Hogs, :)
PS, Sam Fox, Pamela A, Twiggy and Arnie have all gone bra less!
Pick the odd one out!

Can you still use a car bra with bonnet & head light protectors fitted?
BLACK 346

ACPLB...No, but why would you want to. They are a
very snug fit and once on do not move around at all.
Car bra may look a bit ugly (not so bad on my black
car), but personally I think my old bonnet protector
looked worse.
Hogs...No offence, but I had my entire front resprayed,
and it was done in a baking oven, not with cans from
Kmart lol. Seriously mate, if you can call in favours
and get a good quality respray that cheap good onya.
Some of us have to pay full price (NT price at that) :)

There is no way you could get a top quality respray for $100, especially in metallic phantom ... unless you are getting serious mates rates ??? Even then, the paint would probably cost that much alone.
I personally don't think car bras look that bad, on dark blue or black cars you hardly even notice them. I have used them for about 5 years and have never had any scratching or marking from them. No stone chips, very effective. I wouldn't leave it on all the time but great for the country drives.

and now with colour coded ones they stand out a lot less.

Call me a mug,but I have bonnet & head light protectors fitted, mainly because of all the crap, rocks & dirt on Sydneys western subs roads lately :( Bought a Carbra on ebay cheap & havent used it yet, just wonderin if I had to remove protectors to fit car bra ;)
Bought a carbra for the trip up to Bathurst as I just had the whole front end replaced and resprayed Arrived and removed bra. Pi$$ed off. On the trip it rained all the way and there was a section of roadworks for maybe 500 metres crawled thru this to avoid sand flicking up but it obviously did and got in under the bra. Scratched the hell out of everything the bra was touching hopefully it will cut out. Needlesss to say I didnt use it on the way back

How long did you wait after respray before using the
bra? I was told not too use it for at least a month
after painting.

If you are going to buy one buy the carbra brand. It may cost a bit but they are the best on the market. We had one for our VR.
The few thing you should know is that your car has to be very clean befor it gets put on, if it is raining you can't have it on , it will get dust under it so it is to come off and car cleaned after three to four days of driving, your car will get stone chips on it NO matter how well you fit it ( you will fine that some of your stone chips will be half way up your bonnet ) the carbra it self needs to be cleaned once a month and so on. When you buy it it comes normal with things you should and shouldn't do to help you maintain your car and carbra. It is a lot of work and as my wife cleans the cars most of the time she said it wasn't worth the money. The only way is to buy one and try.
By the way you can't really have head light and bonnet proctectors on as they are a very net fit but you can try.

Mine must be an extra tight fit, no way you would get
bonnet/Headlight protectors under it, wouldn't even
bother trying. Matter of fact it is that tight, I have
never seen any dust or dirt under it either. I have
left it on for up to 2 weeks (once it's on you tend
to forget about it until you need to open the bonnet),
and when you pull it off to wash the car, the front end
is spotless. Maybe I could get a complete CAR-BRA like
some clown above suggested, save on washing lol.
Like your wife I don't like things that make life harder,
so I just ignore most of the instructions that came
with it and make sure the car is clean when it goes
on, pretty simple really. Water doesn't seem to
have any adverse affect on them either from what
I have seen in the year that I have been using it :)

I take the bonnet protector off but leave the headlight protectors on, but yes I am VERY, VERY happy with mine, its the carbra brand, use it all the time except when I went to Canberra a couple of weeks ago, couldnt be bothered cleaning the front to put it on, when I got to canberra wished I had taken the time to clean it, as it was a mess and a bugger to get the bugs off.. Well worth the money I say, have had fine scratches on the bonnet but the buff out,

Agree 100%, mine fits damn tight and as long as the car is spotless when it goes on nothing gets underneath. I have used it in the rain and left it on for over a week, never left one single mark on the car. Also I have never had any stone chips further up the bonnet either ???

No chips up the bonnet here either, I assume the
stone deflector stops most of them. Drive amongst
a lot of big trucks (road trains) up here as well.

I have one for my car and although i dont use atm, i used to always have it on. Country NSW living and shitty roads, not to mention the locust plagues last year, im glad i had mine. Same as others just make sure car is clean before u put it on. I never got any scratches on the front end of my car, and i left it on for a couple of weeks through a couple of good storms and no hassles, although it did look funny wen i took it off, nice pristine front end and dusty as all hell rest of car. I will deff put it back on wen i leave tassie.
