Just wondering what the fuel economy is like in the LS2's in the HSV's compared to the LS1's.
My average over the last two years in my stock VX 2 SS (cat back only) is 11.9l/100kms, i can get mid to low 9's on a highway trip over 2000km's with no car bra on and thats not tying to get good economy.
Looking at possibly a demo VZ Clubby instead of the VZ SSZ as there is not a great deal of diference in cost, except i will miss out on leather, buy pick up plenty more.
Have been told the LS2 are much thirstier that mine. I average 12.3 and 9.8 on a trip. Been told the LS2 are in the 16 to 18 range but I am sure a member on here will clarify if I was misinformed. It is not hard to get an LS1 up to that range either it all depends on your driving habits. We will wait and see

A friend of mine has a VZ Clubby
Recently he got 9.5l/100km on a trip and he gets around 18-19l/100km city driving

LS2 was announced to be more fuel efficient than LS1 and in most cases it is. For stock engines, most LS2 drivers I know are achieving better economy than their previous LS1 but like any performance engine if you want it to use more gas it will :)

I have found that mine is a little better for both city and highway driving than my previous LS1 VX R8. Around
1L per 100K better for city and highway.

Same driving conditions an LS2 can use slightly less fuel.
City ave. C4B(300) 16.0 v LS2(330ish) 14.5
Expect the same sort of reduction on the open road.
Managed avg 10-11l/100km on highway and only done 800k's so should get better. Instant hovers around 4-12l/100 on cruise.

I average 10l/100km on highway and 15/16l on city roads.

A friends Z clubbie get 8.5L/100km cruising @110 on pacific motorway - my SV8 gets 9.5L/100km on same stretch of road, although I normally average 10.5L/100km on the highway so the Z clubbie would be higher too under normal circumstances

More power will mean worst fuel economy when driven aggressively it has to.
But cruise fuel economy comes down to efficiency and gearing. My cammed LS1 A4 gets 9.7L/100km at 110kph and would be better with 3.07 gears - maybe gain another 0.7 or so.
An LS2 has higher compression than an LS1 and this alone will make it more efficient. A tune wont make any difference to economy in terms of AFRs at cruise - but a timing change may help.
25% UDP helps economy near 0.7L/100km at cruise
Ported Heads with Comp Increase - helped economy about 1.0L/100km at cruise. (Both the 25% UDP and Heads on a standard cammed mafless LS1 would have it beyond an LS2 in WOT performance)
Also better exhaust helps economy
A VZ LS2 M6 could possibly get under 8.0L/100km if what stated above is accurate and it was equipped with just a 25% UDP. Thats an awesome 35MPG.
So either way both can be made economical and to have good performance.

You weapon, can't help yourself can you.
Just need a decent trade or a buyer for the SS. I like the idea of a LS2 to tow a Real Holden V8 to go racing.

Ive only done 3000km in mine and its been mostly 10-15 minute drives to work comprising of freeway and suburban driving and a couple of longer trips to the coast. When new it was showing 16.4-15.8L/100k,last 1000km its been around 13.7-13.2L/100km and thats with a short WOT about every 2nd day.But buying a new clubby isnt really about fuel consumption anyway!

I noticed when test driving on the weekend the auto ls2 is rated at 13.3 on the fuel economy sticker, a auto LS1 (VZ SSZ) was 13.9 and a manual LS2 15.2
I would expect the manual LS2 to be better on fuel on the higway than the auto ??
Fuel economy does not bother me too much, more trying to see if my fuel buget on my lease will be enough.

After 6 months of ownership my VZ Clubbie is generally 1.5L/100 better around town than my VX2 Clubbie was. Difference is less on the highway but LS2 is still better.

Gains i guess are from extra compression mostly and slightly better head design.
HSV GTO M6 with Harrop LS112-LS2 Supercharger ...
With daily driving in suburburn traffic from Wheelers Hill to Preston (35mins) & back = 13.2 to 14.4 l/100k (depending on fun-level) ;)
Doing a trip to Rutherglen & back (with passengers & as much wine as can fit in the boot & back seat) = 9.9 l/100k
Not bad for a car with 365rwkw !!

3000k on a VZ clubby, so far hovers around 16-18l/100k. Getting around 440-480kms to a tank. Had a bit of a run in with my dealer the other day after geting some minor warranty work done, as l work away they had it for 2 weeks in which they did about 30km "testing". Got a bit agro when l picked it up coz they somehow got the average from 18l/100km when it went in to 23l/100km when l picked it up, no one wanted to take responsibilty

I wouldnt be too concerned. It isnt too difficult to get those figures - particularly if they had zeroed the trip computer - and given a few short "bursts" for testing :)
In order to test a performance vehicle it is necessary to put a bit of load on it without being silly of course. I have caught mechanics being a tad over enthusiastic from time to time and given them a bollocking but being one myself I understand whats necessary

Picked up my clubby last week, on a trip back from melbourne today, averaged 9.2L per 100kms over a distance of 160km's. For the first 60km of thr trip at 100km/h on the freeway it averaged 8.7, but once i had to go thru a few town etc it jumped up.
Im pretty rapt with that considering it only has 1000kms on the clock.
I've had a best of 1,000 km's out of one tank of fuel driving Melbourne to Sydney in a 2003 LS1. The average fuel read-out was sitting on 8.0 L/100 kms. That's the best I've ever seen. The grass on the side of the road was leaning in the direction I was travelling - tail winds make a difference. Even so, this is great economy for a big V8! Mine gives OK economy around town. If I lived in the country, I'd have absolutely NO complaints with the fuel economy.
I've found the Hume to give the best economy. I think it's because the diviided road eliminates the need to knock the car off cruise to pass trucks etc.
I've read that the LS2 is supposed to give even better economy than the LS1. Even if it's in the same ballpark, I guess it would be OK.

Last weekend Blue Mountains to Newcastle and back - driving mostly on the speed limit (not below it to get a good score!) - average 11.2L/100km including Blacktown to M2 and M2 to the Northern Freeway (the Pennant Hills Rd stretch).
The Freeway Stretch at 110kph from Hornsby to Newcastle was done in 10.0L/100km. (120kph sends it to 10.8L/100km tested that on way back) This was with a High Stall Equipped A4 and 3.73 gears - it revs about 2400rpm at 110kph. The ported heads have improved overall economy over 2L/100km.
The run with with 3 passengers and air-con turned on most of the trip.
With a M6 less passenger - no air cond. This engine would have to be in the 8s at 110kph.

I recently travelled the 500 odd K trip to Merimbula, then back.
Averaged 10.7 up and 10.9 back (Must have been a westerly blowing). This done on single lane, two-way highway.
Anyhow, I do drive spiritedly and did see the imperial ton on many overtaking occasions.
The fuel economy on these absolutely destroys that of the Holden 8 iron.
Sixth certainly helps, but you have to sit on at least 110 for it not to lug too much (3.73 diff).
I would reckon trips on a divided freeway would be even better for economy.

Best economy i've had on the hwy is about 8.6L/100... thats under still conditions - no wind.
Around the city is another story... i reset the trip a couple of weeks ago and right now its sitting on 20.1L/100. One problem for me is I only really drive during peak hour, and i don't live all that far from my work, so i spend 15mins in heavy traffic to go only serveral kms, and the car isn't really up to normal temperature for half of that.
I've filled up on a friday night and reset the trip to see what a normal weekend of driving is like and i get ~ 17L/100 or there abouts.
