I've been looking around at the various car tracking security systems available in 2005 and read all the old posts on QuikTrak on this forum and others.

From what I can, there are a few different systems available that:

- are back to base monitored or not
- use different types of technology for tracking (GSM vs Radio network)
- have significantly different operating footprints (major cities or GSM national footprint)

Despite some of the shortcomings with the QuikTrak system and that they are back in the clear business wise, I'd be keen to hear what peoples recent experiences with them are (eg service, quality of installation, any false alarming problems, product performance, saves etc)?

Cheers,

Well, not exactly recent, but I had QuikTrak installed on my previous car. It was a VX Calais International which I bought after my previous car was stolen. I was a bit paranoid about losing this one too, so I got the tracking system installed.

Installation took a day. Dropped it off in the morning, went to work, picked it up that afternoon. Installation was pretty slick. Had the keypad mounted on the dash, so a small hole was drilled for the cable to go through. Apart from that it look factory. Don't know where the rest of the gear is stored though.

Never had any problems with false alarms or any saves (luckily). Used to have to put it into 'Service Mode' when dropping it off at Holden, so they didnt set it off putting it up on a hoist or anything like that. The operator was always able to tell me my exact location while I was talking to them.

All in all, I was very happy with the service and extremely pleased with the peace of mind that is offered.

We currently have QuikTrak in all 4 of our vehicles and 3 of them are installed a second time around. Over the last 8 years we have been with them we have had at least 3 unsucessfull attempts to releave us of out pride and joy. Very few false alarm, most through our own doing. Our oldes system has been in the same car for 8 years and still works as well as the day it was put in. Their service in Sydney is brilliant and they are always happy when I ring to do a test, which is about once a month. I have a great installer that I use and can highly recommend his work. PM me if you would like his details.

I have another type of tracking system fitted to my car which is just like quick track but cheaper.
It's always been pretty good but once it took them about 5 mins to ring me when I set the alarm off by mistake which I wasn't to happy with.
Other then that it's great piece of mind.

try your holden dealer and get the after market holden assist setup. this will allow you to contact the provider when pressing the contact button they will also assist you when you needing urgent assistance, if you havent got your mobile phone?. as well as tracking your car. Contact John Jag in Sydney he is the master for wiring up stereos blue tooth equiplment he subcontracts to Suttons holden and completes all of their work, Ph 0417 207 573 not sure what its called but he can help you. the difference between the after market and the original the after market setup will not call you in the car if your airbag has been deployed in case of an emergency.

If you want advice on Alarm systems, the is only one person you should be considering speaking to. Thats FST57L (Carl), he develops, installs, sells alarms systems for Cars, homes, etc. I beleive he works for Rhino Alarms.
