The NZ Targa tarmac rally is on at the moment. So I disappeared from work for the morning and travelled up to SS18 - Mt Curl. The NZ expats will know this is being by Marton in the Rangitikei region, about 1 1/2 hours north of Wellington.

The section of stage I was going to watch from has a fast down hill approach to a T intersection with a left turn onto a one way bridge. The chamber is really "off chamber" with a downhill bank and creek in the farmers paddock awaiting those that have bigger 'nads than skill. If the bank doesn't get you the armco on the abutments of the one lane bridge await you as well......it's a guarantteed action sort of spot.

So I'm late and the cars have started as I drive up the road to the viewing point. First a fire engine, then an ambo (slow and no lights), then cop cars for Africa.... bugger, I've missed it, I'm thinking.

Well I did miss it, but the unfortunate individual that had the "off" was not who I, or anyone else for that matter,..... was expecting.

I spent the whole stage waiting for a competitors car to land on the cop car roof, nearly happened but not quite.

No injury (bodily anyway) was sustained. I did ask the Senior Sargent if he thought speed could have been a factor.....

Sorry about the pics - phone camera.

Cheers,

Interesting pic - apart from the poor parking choices made - did anyone notice the ghey orange striping
