Yeow. First post.
Ok I'm 17 and the rents just bought me a sexy black VU SS Fifty after 2 years of begging. I can't find many specs for it. So they would be handy. Who wants to help me out here?
Cheers. :flamin:
Congratulations

Holden is celebrating 50 years of building utilities with its limited edition SS Fifty Ute.
The 500-only SS Fifty is based on the Series II VU Ute SS and comes in any colour you like as long as its black. Phantom Black, in fact, with Quicksilver side and rear highlights.
The specification is straight from the street, bringing with it the type of aftermarket modifications you'll find on at least one black VU ute in your neighbourhood.advertisement

And Holden believes it's onto an instant collectable.
Fifty-only features include the rakish alloy sports bar descended from the old roo shooters' bracing and driving light mount 17-inch machine-faced six-spoke alloy wheels, SS Fifty badging and appropriate signage on the flush-fitting tonneau cover.
Inside, the SS Fifty brings with it some maximum impact differences over the stock SS, too. The seats are trimmed in fabric with Hyper Yellow leather bolsters. The instrument panel is colour-coded, and the yellow instrument cluster echoes the seat bolsters.
The Anthracite leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake lever get yellow "baseball" stitching. Door handles, handbrake and auto-shift buttons are highlighted in satin chrome.
The black-and-yellow theme is big under the bonnet, too, where the black Gen-III 5.7-litre V8 engine cover sports yellow highlights.
Mechanical specification and standard features are unchanged from those of the SS Series II VU Ute, and transmission choice is six-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
And the price? Recommended retail is $38,900 $1,300 more than the standard SS ute.
AND this taken from autoweb:
Holden is celebrating the 50th anniversary year of its famous Ute with the release of a uniquely specified and limited edition model - the SS Fifty Ute.
Holden will produce just 500 of the V8-powered anniversary edition Utes, which are based on the Series II VU Ute 55.
The SS Fifty Ute is available in one exterior finish only — a handsome combination of Phantom Black with side and rear highlights in Quicksilver. Further differentiating features include an alloy sports bar, 17-inch, machine faced six spoke alloy wheels, SS Fifty identification on the flush-fitting tonneau cover and SS Fifty badging.
The passenger compartment is just as individual. Stylish SS Fifty interior treatments include sports seats trimmed in a unique combination of SS 'Code' fabric with leather bolsters in Hyper yellow. A colour-coded instrument panel and yellow instrument cluster complement the seat trim . The Ute's Anthracite leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear shifter and handbrake are edged in yellow baseball stitching — and the door handles, handbrake and auto-shift button are highlighted in satin chrome.
Under the bonnet, there's a unique black Generation Ill V8 engine cover with yellow accents.
John Elsworth, Holden Marketing Manager, Large Cars, says the 50th anniversary edition of the legendary Holden Ute continues a great tradition.
"More than that, it makes its own mark. The SS Fifty is in every sense a sports utility of the new era — which means it's flexible, it's versatile, it is a true performer," he said.
"With SS Utes already in high demand and production of this one restricted to just 500 units, the SS Fifty is definitely destined to become a collector's item. We celebrated the start of the Holden Ute's 50th anniversary year with the launch of the best-ever VU range — and now the Fifty will take it out in style," John Elsworth said.
The SS Fifty Holden Ute is powered by a 225kW 5.7 litre Generation Ill V8, teamed with a choice of six speed manual or electronic control four speed automatic transmission.
Further standard features include front fog lamps, sculptured front fascia and side skirts, driver and passenger airbags, anti-lock brakes, sports suspension and air conditioning.

I wish someone would buy me a V8  ah well maybe next year
The driving course is a good idea. Ive been wanting to do 1 for ages now but its the cost that hurts. Plus they want you to supply your car and I'm waiting until I get an SS because it'd be fun to do it in the Adventra but I think there may be a problem with constant TC or ESP especially when it comes to the low traction part of the day
I'm hoping to go along to the next one work hosts though, their supposed to be excellent because they supply the cars, jags, beamers and the like. You'd think they'd do more considering the power and price tag these cars carry that we drive on a regular basis. As I climb into a Range Rover Vogue or anything with 10 cylinders or a supercharged 8 for that matter, I try not to think about the pricetag or the power under the right foot (but its hard when its not your car  )

[QUOTE=Y2kGoofball]
its the cost that hurts.
Exactly as "V6" said get some experience first they are not toys even a stock 225 KW can get out of control very easely especially when you don't expect it
and you don't have the experience to get it out of trouble
*it's the cost that Hurts"
the cost of a good driving school is peanuts compared to the damage that can happen if you loose it, when it comes to High performance cars and young kids I'm with the cops %100 , going from a BMX bike to a Turbo WRX or SS or XR 8 is a whole new world, live or die, the roads in your hands...

His parents must not want to make him Christmas lunch this year - 17!
Glad I'm up here - damn.
What happened to the good ol days of a Corona for a first car. The days when you learnt to get it sideways down back country dirt tracks, and yep - it takes plenty of practice. Even the Corolla was too much car on gravel at 17.
Sorry dude - enjoy - be safe! And remember: ya nuts don't get any bigger draggin!

:D Good to see mate but be careful, and don't try to give it a boot full in the wet that is when it is dangerous even if you don't mean it, my ss with no traction control is deadly in the wet, going into a round a bout and giving it a little tap will send you sideway's (it has happen to me but I have had experience and have controlled the car though I shitted my-self as I did not expect it). And I have to say it is pretty damn stupid having it for your first car, I learnt all of my stuff in a Ford EA 1990 Model that was only worth $1000 and what happen to that I would be dredding if I had my ss, I have had three cars before my ss, the EA, a VL, VN V8 and now my VX SS. Good luck and don't wreck it, and make sure your fully insured.

the SV6 can do that and its just a 6. I'm used to driving the Adventra which you do feel the extra weight on take off, and today when I got behind the wheel of the SV6 to go down the road (which apart from sitting lower feels just like the Addy) I forgot just which car I was in until I felt the rear end start to slide around the roundabout and I ended up going around once more drift style to straighten the car while the dash lit up to tell me theres no traction with the picture of a car sliding (der!)
I suppose I'm used to taking the roundabout at 50 k's because the front of the Addy is also driving and the rear is following and with the extra weight its glued to the ground, but the SV6, although a performance car as such, a tap on the accelerator through the roundabout was enough to set it off.

im sure an SS fifty would still fetch a few bucks...
absolutely silly idea to have one at 17 :bash:
if i ever have kids theres no way in hell i would ever give in and let them have such a vehicle... tho these might be considered very old and slow by then
insurance????? nobody will touch you! im picturing 10k insurance premium, at least... with a nasty excess
and are there any P plater restrictions in adelaide??? these cars are definately illegal for P platers in victoria.. and for a reason

I agree it would be a wild car for a 17 yo first car, but we really dont know the whole story yet. :)

Yeh nah, no restricitons in adelaide for this stuff. I hear you cant drive a V8 in VIC til you're 25 tho, thats gotta suck. And yes, my parents feel like the stupidest people in the world, but the deal was I got to pick whatever car I wanted.
As for insurance, I'm with elders I dont think its too bad.
I know all about being careful, one dude in my year at school had an SS ute taht he raced and had plenty of close calls with, lucky he was a on a race track most of the time. Then he sold it and got a 180SX and a Lexus LS1200 (or seomthing)..until he wrote that off. Not to mention the countless other write-offs that happen to school kids around here. A lot of mates and school dudes have cars of similar performance so they offer good advice. (And yes if you were wondering, we're spoilt.)
