Was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on something I’ve got absolutely no idea about. I’ve got a mate who will be moving down to Tassie next January. He’s looking at purchasing his brother’s Subaru Forester as he will be getting a new one and trading the old one in. The NSW rego on the said Forester runs out in December.

What would his best solution be to re-register this car in Tassie, is it possible to do it without having to renew the rego in NSW and then cancel it less than a month later when he moves to Tassie, as this will mean losing a bit of money, or can you get an interim rego in NSW/TAS for the several weeks between the time the old rego runs out and the time to him moving?

Cheers

Dont the RTA reimburse money on reg when you cancel the rego(hand the plates back in)? Just ring the RTA and see if they do....

The RTA will refund the Rego on a ProRatered rate based on how much rego is left.

If the RTA is the same as Vic Roads then you will get a pro-rata back of the REGISTRATION cost, the TAC and compulsory third party component is non-refundable and unfortunetly is what makes up the majority of the annual registration cost :bash: You should be able to get like a 28 or 45 day permit from the RTA to cover the gap though.
I Hope that helps,

Clubbie.
