Crown vics are RWD and use the Ford 4.6L V8's.

Every taxi I rode in while visiting USA last year was a Crown Vic. I know this going to sound nasty (apologies in advance), but even for a '95 car these things seems antiquated (spelling?) .. and I own a AMC Javelin, so I know antiquated!! I also own a Ford (2001 Falcon 5.0L ute), and the AU seems light years ahead in ride, handling, performance, etc. I wish Ford spent some money to update these things .. or even (heaven forbid!) import Aussie Falcons!

Again, no offence, just observations. I am however glad to see at least some RWD, 4-door cars still exist in the good 'ole US-of-A!

Yes the Ford Crown Victoria's are used by the Police here in the United states.

Yes they are still producing the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria
as well as its sister car the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Well thats for my 95 and thats 10 years ago. they have improved the performance but not that much......

Jeez, I think that us Australians should be more grateful for what we get here!

Holden Commodore had 165kw 5.0L in 1988, Ford Australia had 165kw 5.0L Windsor in 1991 EB Falcon

I am not at all bagging out crown vics, I would hate to come to a new forum and get shot down. I just always thought they were uber powerful (i think i will blame american cop movies for that !!! )

You should organise a petition on your forum to let Ford US know that you know what the Aussie Fords are like - You need the BF Falcon definetly :)

GMACK24 welcome to the Forum. I had a ride in Crown taxi when I was in U.S recently. The car was and ex-police car converted to a taxi. The taxi driver said they are great and run for a long time with minimal issues. I would assume there is an industry around modifying the 4.6.

Yes, the Crown Vic is well past it's prime design-wise. It's the last full sized, body on-frame, V-8 RWD car left in production here in the States. Only reason it's still in production is to fulfill it's role as the ultimate fleet vehicle. With it's rugged design it's one of the few vehicle's able to withstand the abuses seen from Police service. BTW, the model used in Police service is called the Police Interceptor, and features upgrades such as stronger suspension, heavy duty tires, larger injectors, aluminum driveshaft, reinforced transmission, and a calibrated speedo among other features. The early Ford 2v 4.6L mod motors were extremely weak. The engine was new and Ford was still working with it (Pissed off alot of Mustang owners when it was introduced into that car in '96). But today the 4.6L has come a long way and is seen as a powerful, modern powerplant.
Mercury produced a performance version of the Crown Vic from 2003-2004 called the Marauder. It featured a 4v 4.6L producing just north of 300hp N/A, along with other performance/cosmetic upgrades:

I had a HOT ROD magazine with an ex-police '98 model some Californian bloke had shoved one of the F-Truck Triton V-10s into - apparently it was a very easy fit, lots of the electrical hardware married up, and it went like stink.

From memory, he kept the big cop wheels and lowered suspension and everyone mistook him for an undercover car.

My 4.0L V8 in my 1700kg BMW sometimes works hard, but a 4.6 in a 4100lb car has gotta suck - you need a GT-P Falcon 5.4 with 400hp or 290kw.

I have to say... especially with seeing the inside.. all i can do is compare it to a 1995 Falcon... and no offence.. i think the EF looks way newer and looks younger then its age of 10 years... I have noticed some American cars tend to look more dated...
