The next major release, destined for 2006 is designated as VE. What they use after VE no-one knows yet.

Could you imagine the number plate for a ZZ SSZ? A true sleeper?

holden skipped heaps of letters (probably becuase VE sounded like XE etc) but my money is on VF next (or is there a similar problem with BF), VI sounds OK, VJ is a valiant, VM sounds like VN but OK, VO sounds ok, VV is silly, VW was designed by Hitler, thats about it!

so we have

VE
VF
VI
VM
VO

which would get us through the 10 year life cyle

They may change to a new naming system? Ford did it with BA, everyone was expecting 'AV' - ie, it was the AV Falcon right up until launch. It would be a nice fresh start for Holden anyway. But i also wonder whether model names will change as in Executive, Acclaim, Berlina, Calais etc. Will they shift to an alphanumeric naming system like ford did with XT?

Problem with Holden's model designations is that with lots of letters, they have jumped around all over the place, using the same initial letter for totally different cars. There's only a handful of letters left that haven't been used for something.

If Z hadn't been used on the Vectra, Z for Zeta would be a good one. They haven't used C yet though, so C for Commodore maybe one day.

As far as I know, the only initial letters Holden haven't used on anything are A, B, C, D, G, I, K, O, and P.

(I know too much Holden trivia.)

The New Holden YO series 2

My how Ghetto

All it would need is some 22inch chromes/spinners, and a killer stereo, and perhaps some Hydros

Or even The Holden BA.....Like The Ford But Better!

IMO they should just go with model year and save all the farting around with stupid letter designations and series II and III rubbish.

My car could have been a simple 2003 Monaro CV8, not a 2003 V2 Series II Monaro CV8. :bash:

Well they have already used VG (VN ute) VQ (VN Statesman) and VU (VX Ute ) so i doubt any of those would be used, and btw i don't think VD will ever be used as it could be seen as being something else if you get my drift.

There shouldn't be a problem using the same model codes as other makes. Remember the last Ford Festiva was called a WB.

Don't forget guys that everyone thought the new Falcon was going to be "AV", until Ford revealed it'd be called "BA".

Who knows...maybe Holden will drop the VE thing entirely, and go with something completely different?

It's possible I guess. :)

Cheers,

That'd be fine if new models started in Jan and ran for 12 months, but they don't. VT SII came out in July '99, for example.

Just imagine...
Customer: "I need a part for my Commodore. It's a 1999 Commodore."
Service dept: "OK, was it built before July or after?"
Customer: "WTF?? I don't know! It's a '99 Commodore! Give me my part!"

;)

Cheers,
- Febs.
