View Full Version : CONFIRMATION OF "TORANA"!

I can confirm from several senior sources within Holden that Holden will launch its Vectra replacement in the 3rd/4th quarter 2006. This confirms stories by several media outlets earlier in the year regarding the replacement of Vectra. Based on Daewoo Magnus underpinnings the car will have totally unique sheetmetal and according to the source is said to be "very Torana TT36-like". This is due to the fact that Max Wolff designed both the Torana concept and the Vectra replacement. Pretty exciting stuff, unfortunate that its not based on Zeta but the car will run 4 cyllinder and HFV6 engines in a front-wheel drive platform. The source could not confirm the name of the model except to say that Holden is currently losing large sums of money from its European products and that the car will therefore be a suitable replacement for the overpriced European-sourced Vectra. Can't say anymore without jeopardising the source given the information is highly confidential.

It may look like the Torana but if they call it a Torana it will be a discrace!

No problems with the car itself though, if it looks half as good as the concept it will be a whole lot nicer than Holden's other Daewoo cars

Not only will the Vectra replacement be based on a Daewoo, it will look like one too.

Nothing to see here.

If it looks like the Torana concept, no problem.

If it's called Torana, big problems.

Mate, they are not my cars.

But to answer your question, probably not, but these cars do win European awards.

And unlike the new BMW 3 series manufactured in South Africa, at least Ford dont charge like they are made in Europe.

what i dont get is why ford fanatics come to an LS1 eg holden and GM forum and try and convince us that ford is better. dude ive had a holden and ford, its all good, dont need the charades. btw, thats not directed at anyone in particular

back to the topic though.
if there was a torana it had bloody well do its name justice. and im pretty sure the holden execs know that the car will get slagged sensless in motor mag if its a shithouse 4cyl

nah i hope they do bring out the 4 cylinder torana, that means that our 1970's toranas will jump an extra 10 grand, due to the demand on a real torana.

when are we going to see the new torana, some wrx's, and of course a falcon run around bathurst.

WHEN THEY FLATTEN THE TRACK OUT...

Everyone's getting a little hysterical, maybe the title of the thread was misleading and deceptive . . . I meant that i can confirm that a 'Torana TT36-style car' is confirmed for Australian release in 06 and that it will be significantly influenced by Holden in terms of both design and engineering and I have to say if the S3X is anything to go by, it may very well be a significantly better car than the European-sourced Holden Vectra. It should have great engines and transmissions, impressive ride and handling for a FWD and decent build quality. But I very very much doubt that it will be named 'Torana' for the reasons already mentioned; the source did not refer to it as the new Torana but as 'the Vectra replacement' and that its body styling was very similar to that of the Torana TT36 show car.

ok so it can't be called Torana, and Camira has a bad stigma attached to it. What other midsizers have Holden had in the past?, that is if they don't use a new name or borrow one from the GM family - Malibu, Cobalt? Who know's. I think I've worked out the production name for the S3X, but i dont want to ruin it, sshhhhh nice name

At this stage the most likely name is Holden Epica.

Holden will jeopardise their performance reputation of they try to name the thing Torana.

Imagine if they were going to build it with RWD, choice of 4, 6 or 8 cyl engines, and sports and touring suspension options.

I'll have a red one...

You gotta love the global car economy.... but when they start harvesting local names (which I guess they probably won't in this case)... not nice. :(

Bring out a RWD 6 or 8 mid-sized Torana and that would be GREAT :)

I'll take a Twin Turbo 3.6l V6 in 4Wd Red and a second in V6 RWD Blue.
Where do I send the deposits?

Please, please, please, please. I'll even pay up front offset some of the devlopment costs.

I'd also like an SSX for the weekend. :)

Good marketing exercise to see what people would swarm to. The name Torana will bring the crowd in, then it's just a matter of picking the mumbo you're after.

If they listed a TT HFV6, it'd sell like hot cakes and take alot of the market away from the XR6T. Same potency in a smaller compact car would be a desireable option.

Cheers,
Steve

This has been discussed before but given that it has been speculated that Daewoo will build vehicles off the Zeta platform in Korea, i don't see why they couldn't build along side them a RWD Torana-style vehicle for export. The Americans and Europeans would go crazy over it and it would cost significantly less than Commodore to build given the Korean manufacture and high volumes leading to economies of scale. I really couldn't care less where it was built as long as the quality was at least as good as the Australian product, it had major engineering and design input by Holden and it contained HFV6 and GENIV engines and decent transmissions. I'd buy a Korean-built RWD Torana SS with a TT36 engine or an AWD HSV Torana GTS with an LS7 in a flash, and i'm sure i'm not alone. The price would probably even come in the $25,000-$30,000 bracket for the base model meaning they could scrap the European built Astra. Maybe something for the next generation after the Magnus-based car?
