You could well be right. Sounds feasible. At least it is consistent eh!
You used to dyno over here?
. Only established *Genuine*power readings I ever obtained were extracted down the main straight at Ruapuna Park Dragway ..but a hop skip and jump around the back of the airport from my humble abode * Coniston * ....Watsons RD Harewood CH CH 5

HQR: Wow, 'phone a bit quiet at work today eh?.....
You've had a red hot go :hide:
FWIW: I accept the car in question got a gain from the Growler.... but I still tided it up at the Carterton drags in my stocker with only the remus :flip3: thanks to 24 psi in the rear tyres:lol:
As I've always said, that dyno gives questionable results. Like XLR8 V8 says, I can't see how those mods can possibly make up for all the drivetrain losses which is effectively what the graph says.
Better get a tune and growler for the Surf, big fella :shiner:
Cheers,
Gordie
Shumway,
You are alive still.....was that a fair comparison? 255kw VX Clubby M6 versus your A4 VZ Clubby? LS1 vs LS2? If you didnt smoke him I would be concerned!
Must be time to go out for some
I think we established the dyno reads 20% higher.... :headbang:
You've had a red hot go :hide: yep - wanted to increase my posting status...

For those that do, I hear you can buy instructions off Ebay on how to do a throttle body coolant bypass as well. :lmao:
hey i did that
and i got .3 tenths faster and 7 RWKW....or was it RWHP...
actually, the brakes started fading about then too....Hmmmmm
no need to get "hot" about it
honest :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hey lads,
I own a VZ SSZ ute, about to throw some dollars at it with an exhaust, edit, diff gears and an intake, but struggling to make a decision on the induction system to use. There is so much info out there but all with different opinions?
Would love some feedback on the "growler" intake systems? Has anyone got the growler on their ss?

i have a VZ Crewman got a 3.5 sureflo medium, standard headers,2 hole mod fully sealed off,LS1 tune = 226 rwkw (on a real dyno machine at a reputable tuner in auckland) .i have done the ss thing, wasted my money learnt my lesson on my sv8 which got 236 rwkw with it all ripped off,a very expensive exercise.I will go mafless and otrcai once my warranty is up on my crewman.

I have personally fitted & dynoed over 30 Growler kits on VY & VZ's. Usually the car comes in with about 180kw at the rear wheels. Bolt the Growler on in 10 minutes, run it up & get about 192kw at the wheels. An LS2 is usually about 190kw at the wheels, bolt on a Growler & get around 202 to 204kw at the wheels. The noise it makes at full throttle is great & I have never had a customer complain about one. They look factory & in my opinion do the job & are value for money. The car goes better, uses less fuel, sounds great & the end user is happy - what more do you want?

I guess the SS induction VZ kit is better than the previous setups. I had it, and if you were to just do a catback and growler, the gains would seem ok.
My proof is when I went 1 7/8" headers, 3"cats, 60mm Remus twin catback, Growler and tune......232 rwkw @ F1 Performance. Just couldn't squeeze any more out.
I said to just remove the SS inductions and see what you can do.
SO, with an HSV MAF pipe and K&N long pod.... 243 rwkw.
With the stock 90mm MAF pipe and 2 hole mod CAI 240 rwkw.
Out came the SS Inductions Growler for good, sold it for $350, and am now gonna get an OTR and Mafless tune since I have got a 3.5" Single that has really opened up the flow compared to the Remus restriction.
There is proof and proof, more proof and then search, and get more proof..... these things are not good for anyone wanting to get the most out of their mods which they have spent heaps of bucks on.
I do understand that it is hard to allow yourself (happened to me) to be persuaded otherwise once you have forked out the cash for these units, but eventually, people will see the light.
My 1c worth, and my experience.
Cheers,
Panelman.

Nice little earner that retail *Markup* on SS gear too.:deal: ......eh :stick:
A simple tune would have provided those 30 odd customers with just so much more......

I had been stupid enough to install a big mouth system on my VY SS and the car was actually slower after installation. I bought it pre LS1.com membership and have regretted it since.
I have since removed it and now there is something rattling in the engine bay and for the life of me I cant find it. If anyone can offer any advice as to what it could be, it would be greatly appreciated.
DOWN WITH SS INDUCTIONS!!!
PS I have a Big Mouth CAI for sale if anyone is interested. :p
