You will have 4 small holes in your boot lid which could either be pluged with rubber plugs or filled by a panell beter and painted. The minimum height is 100mm between the lowest part of your car and the ground, you cant cut the springs either, they must resemble the height of the orignal springs when unloaded to prevent them falling out, dislodging or releasing the bearings from your shock tower at full travel.

To cover the holes properly you need to get them welded and the boot lid repainted. If you fill them in, the filler will always shrink back over time and the holes will be be noticeable under the paint.

When I took off my boot spoiler, I got the holes welded up and got my whole boot repainted. ;)

Best way is to buy a new boot and get it painted.

I replaced the boot on my vy when i wanted it without the spoiler. I can't remember what I paid for the new bootlid, but it was less than I expected and worked out just as cost effective to go for the new bootlid over welding up the original.

Yeah for a new car, like if I did it to my VY SS I would get a new boot and paint it.
But I removed the spoiler off my vn commodore, wasn't going to buy a new boot for a vn it wouldn't be worth it.

got mine bogged and resprayed - cost somewhere in the vicinity of $300. No visible marks where the holes were after about a year so far.

Or find an exec bootlid from a wrecker in the same colour.

Do you have any pics of an SS without boot spoiler? Would look great IMHO. Nearly went for a Calais this time for that very reason.

These aren't the best pics to show it without the spoiler but you get the idea.

That is one nice, slick, low SS. Was thinking of taking my rear spoiler off today just to see how it would look but was worried I'd scratch something on the new VZ. Thanks for the pics.

Covert, the mods you have carried out on that car made it look awesome!
Wheels + suspension = ACE!
No Boot spoiler, very nice.

Found another one from the back. It's a pretty crap photo though. Thanks for the comments.

Covert,
Looks great from the back without the spoiler.
Ever thought of getting a chev grille to match your boot chev badge?

I'm not sure I like the Chev grille for the VY. The grille for the SV8/Exec front doesn't look too bad but the one for the SS front looks a bit weird. It looks ok on a silver car though.

Find a guy without a spoiler and swap boot lids. You might even find someone that will PAY you for the spoiler. That way there is no welding, filling painting etc and all you need to do is undo a few bolts (and check his paint is ok)

also i was wondering what the regulations on lowering ur car is. is it legal to have you car lower than the top of ur wheel sorta thing..thanks
Lowering of vehicles or the legality thereof is governed by Vehicle Standards Information (Modifications for motor vehicles).
These are the parts concerned with your question of lowering.......

The ground clearance of a vehicle measured from a horizontal road surface to any point on the underside of the vehicle except the tyre, wheels, wheel hubs and brake backing plates shall, with the vehicle in it’s loaded state as specified by the manufacturer, be not less than:
• For any point in the width of the vehicle which is within one metre fore and aft of any axle, 100mm.

A vehicle may be lowered of raised provided the clearance between a suspension component and its associated bump stop is not altered by more that 1/3 of that specified by the manufacturer. In addition, the original relationship between the front and rear suspension heights must not be unduly affected.

Suspension coil spring must not be shortened by cutting. If lowering blocks are used, they must be manufactured from either steel, aluminium or a metal of equivalent hardness.

The wheels and tyres must not foul any part of the body, suspension, steering or brake components at any position of the suspension travel or steering movement, and, when in the straight ahead position.

So the answer to your question, "can have you car lower than the top of ur wheel" assuming you are talking about ur wheel arches the answer would be NO.

Hope that helps.
