Could you tame down the size of the picture on the front page (the one of the GTO-R)?

Despite the fact that the article and picture are devoted to a LHD US$375,000 car, which will probably never be seen in Australia (even the title says "For U.S. customer purchase") and forgetting the fact that a post about what people wear to night clubs ( Where did it all go wrong? (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=46899) ) which was posted 2 days later has attracted 3 times as many views without needing to have a massive picture on the front page, the simple fact is some of us are still running 1024 x 768 resolution (highest available on a 15" TFT) and cant see the full version of the homepage.

And dont let me start on those poor suckers using Pocket PC's to view the site :)

Also I have some other suggestions for the front page. Instead of having survey results from a Poll which closed 7 1/2 months ago, and some articles about vfacts and news articles from many many months ago ... how about some step by step guides for n00bs. Would take someone to sit down and go through various threads (diff gears, edits, tyres, superchargers, turbos, etc) and trim the fat, so that its just pure information, and not personal opinion and attacks.

Or maybe just display the top ten hottest topics, sure if they are really that hot, you'll see them on the right ... I just think that people arent coming to LS1.com.au to read the news. Most things of interest are put into threads anyway.

Also maybe a simple gallery of members cars. A section where you get to upload one picture only of your car, so people can admire, without having to sort through some thread with 5 megapixel photos, which become invalid 2 laters later due to bandwidth exceeding.

Just some things running through my head as I scroll side to side.
oh, and if I didnt say it before ... can we shrink the size of that GTO-R ?

Thanks :D

Or everyone could just buy better quality screens and view it all :deal:

Just for the record, 14.1" screen running @ 1400 x 1050 and all looks good :)

.. but good point about the pictures ...

There is a gallery of cars on www.oz8.org which was setup to service LS1 members and there is also Haroc's hosting service as well. Please note the links are for LS1 members ONLY. Please dont link to other sites without permission. To get access on the gallery you need to be a validated member and PM me. This is NOT an official LS1 thing, its just something ive personally setup so dont complain to the mods if i say no to your hosting :D

my shortcut to the forum goes direct to the forum and bypasses the front page so i never see it. I posted news a while ago but it was too spasmodic so i no longer have access. Every so often i get the urge to post news but i just post a new thread instead. Im sure if you sent "newsable" stuff to the mods it would become news pretty quick.

the pics are only 800x600 anyway...
If we get news worth putting on the front page, email us, we will take it on board, no one atm has the time to be redoing the front page, the site is primarily a forum, having the frontpage is meerly an adition where we put odd's and ends and sponsor spotlight stuff etc..
I think that kinda makes sense

The word you are looking for is "Newsworthy" Stew :P

I figured the pic would be small enough considering it's only 800x534  Didn't realise there were still people out there with monitors the size of a postage stamp :p The Boss will have to resize it as he has now hosted it on the forum server.
If you're looking for a new monitor - see HERE (http://gottahaveone.blogspot.com/2005/10/elumens-visionstation.html) ;)
The article was posted in the News section as it was provided to us ahead of the official release date by Holden for use here. Unfortunately none of us had a chance to put it up in time to "scoop" anyone else. Even though it relates to the US market, it did stem from our homegrown Monaro so it has relevance. The what to wear thread does not have News relevance on an automotive forum.
The "How-to's for Noobs" guide idea is a good one and has been discussed before, but is also one filled with potential issues if not done correctly with full detailed disclaimers. Someone writing a How-to guide could be held legally responsible if another person uses that guide and blows up their engine/diff etc. I know that sounds paranoid, but you know what the world is like at the moment ...people suing each other for giving them a cold
