I've seen numerous instances of double-posts.
I submitted a post just a few minutes ago and even though I only did so once, it came back and complained that I had done it twice within 30 seconds.
Sidewindr
26-11-2005, 07:08 PM
The double posts are a symptom of users being impatient when things were slow and clicking on submit reply a second time.
As for the 30 Second thing you cannot make more than 1 post every 30 seconds you probably just posted somewhere else and then your next post was within the 30 second timeframe.
mavss
26-11-2005, 08:33 PM
I assure you - this is a bug rather than me being impatient.
*EDIT* - I got the same error for this submission but the weird thing is that the post is successful anyway - even though I get the error :)
Maybe it's only happens with the "Quick Posts".

Yes we ARE currently experiencing a few problems with the web server software which cropped up tonight requiring a re-install... hope to have it fixed sometime tomorrow.
Since this thread sems to be a place to report problems, something I've observed when I try to go to www.ls1.com.au is that after taking ages to open the page I get a 404 but the address bar shows I'm trying to get into www.ls1.com.au/profile.php instead. Manually editting it in the address bar back to www.ls1.com.au seems to get me into the front page most of the time. It occurred to me the homepage has a new feature at the top where it says" Welcome Rod, you dont appear to have posted for a few weeks....why not join in the discussions...bla bla bla". If this feature is accessing the profile script when I come into the homepage perhaps it is what is causing the opening to bog down and timeout, leaving me with 404 on the profile.php link.
Keep up the good work, I know how stressful and frustrating things can be when they dont work properly :)

The exact message I get is :
The following errors occurred when this message was submitted:
1. This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 23 seconds.
However, my post still makes it into the thread.
I've also only ever experienced it from the "Quick Reply" option.

this is the first time I have been actually able to get into the forum today
first early (9.00ish) until about 1.00pm i tried every 15 mins or so
I would get the normal opening page, and if I clicked on anything...
New Posts, Search, FAQ...
the hourglass would come up..and that was as far as i would go
just nothing...!
I cleared the browser cache, i tried 2 different browsers ( I normally used
Moziilla but also have IE on PC), restarted PC , reset Internet connection
still nothing.
After lunch I tried again every hour or so and if clicked on New Posts
I got a message....
The following errors occurred when this message was submitted:
1. This forum requires that you wait 20 seconds between posts. Please try again in 10 seconds.
so i waited
and got exactly the same thing :(
but now
i am here...pheww!
cheers
Just another quick prob i have had. The "do=getnew" search is not working. Only stopped working today.

Guys, the forum upgrades are on-going and problems / delays will be prevalent until everything is finshed.
We appreciate your patience on this.......
The Administrator and Moderators are aware of the dodgy forum behaviour while this is occuring.
Considering the usual speed and efficiency the forum operates at (compared to the erratic behaviour that some other sites have to accept as the norm) it is a small price to pay for equipment and software upgrades that will benefit users in the long run!

Smitty, it was probably an upstream procy caching the pages from when we were having the web server software issues. It has been recompiled and re-installed so fingers crossed it should all be sweet ;)

Ok the Quick Reply issue has been fixed at the expense of AJAX which enables a bunch of new features utilising builtin features in new browsers etc.
Will fix the issue and then re-enable AJAX once a fix has been found .. :)

No problems :)
I'm not flying solo on the upgrades either btw, Ben (Modena) aka the server jockey hehe has also put alot of hours into this recent upgrade as well as past upgrades.
The recent upgrades are all software related and this latest version of vbulletin gives you the users alot of new cool features as well as giving me the ability to install customisations easier as well as making the upgrade process easier in the future.
The hardware is beginning to suffer due to the growth of the forum so that will be the next thing we have to look at addressing, but not for a month or two ;) I will need to catch up on my sleep once we have ironed out all the bugs as will Ben I'm sure.

Mate its intermittent. The first time I reported the bug it was not updating the page. Clearing my cache resolved the problem. But now as you suggested it is returning a blank page. Clearing my local cache has no effect now. Im guessing the optus cache might be making some of the forum hiccups worse by caching them long after you guys fix them??
Either way its no biggy for now. I was just raising it so there is a note of a possible problem. I know the forum upgrades must be taking up a shitload of time.

Some bugs to report.
Apparently I rarely contribute to the forum.....:( Maybe I should lift my post rate to 12 per hour, will this cause a problem....:stick:
The calender on the homepage doesn't seem to be showing links on the dates anymore.
I can't get access to the timeslips. I get the following message.
VZKOOP, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Speed seems to be much better now. The forum quicklinks are a great idea.

I know youve got some glitches and I assume my problem is related. But just to let you know, when I login i get the 404 error and I need to retype the ls1 address to get to the members page. Oh and I cant see most avatars.
Ill wait patiently and let you know if the problem persists when you think all is ok again.

That 500 error is not from the forum, we have no webfiltering. Are you connecting from work? There must be some kind of web filter in your path controlling access to sites and restricting access to porn etc. This would account for your randomness as well as when the software fails none of the searches work at all and login pages do not display at all.

Im going to guess and say that is a error in the lang_error.php file if vBulliten has that file or just a basic $lang file error
$lang['error_404'] = "Error 404 - Not Found";
$lang['error_404_message'] = 'Error404, Sorry the page you are looking for could not be found. Please contact your board admin for more help.';
A search of the language files should find it and it should be changed from
www.ls1.com.au/profile.php
to
www.ls1.com.au/forum/profile.php
Hope that helps

That would be all well and good but I've already been there and looked. There's no reference to profile.php at all in there. And I cannot replicate it with any of my test accounts/logins. It has to be some sort of caching issue or some obscure profile setting maybe.

Of course if you want to put one up where you have your ugly mug hidden behind a helmet, that would be fine too :stick:
