Question: if you're going to strip and tub it, and essentially build an engine from scratch, why did you decide to start with a VZ Maloo, rather than say a VU SS? (or any other model for that matter?)

Just curious.

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask, but the customer purchased a 15th Anniversary VZ Maloo Ute, not a VU SS.

Sorry guys, I was under the impression (obviously mistakenly) that it was a shop car, being built for a "track attack" of sorts. It seemed a shame to start with such a nice car if it was being gutted as a strip only thing.

Sounds like you'll have a happy customer.

You were not the only one, the original thread didn't
mention any customer, just that APS were getting

Wow Luv the colour Now is it a manual or auto And do we have a power figure in mind. Just a rough estimate will do as I know everyone likes to keep these things secret. Driveability is the other thing that comes to mind Is it being built as a street car with track in mind of course. And are you going to keep a running commentry of the progress. Estimated time to complete a project like this would be handy to know as well. anyway keep the pedal to the floor cheers BFK:lol:

Sorry guys for not being more clear. I wish I could just work on my own cars everyday but customers come first. Mind you, I wish I had the time to even drive my car being that it is a VZ SS with only 7000ks on the clock and I've had it for a year already.

I realise you are not intending to have a dig because if its $500.00 or $50,000.00 we respect everyone of our customers. As for sense, he must have a lot to have this much money to spend on a car.

No offense taken.

This car will be an everyday driver and as HSV states, 15 Years of Thunder, we expect it to be a lightning bolt down the strip.
The cam combination that we have chosen should have very little idle interuption but with a slight note at idle. As for kW's, the stroker kit is rated to 1000hp, so lets just see what it makes once it is completed. We are anticipating every bit of 500 + rwkW.

Congratulations on a brilliant start to the project. Having looked over the work completed thus far on the vehicle, it would be difficult to pick what work was performed out of Holden.

Looks like you guys will be in for another happy customer!!

Ok kids, just a progress report for you. Tubs are finished and painted. Looks pretty factory to me but it will hold a 325/25/19 tyre. The wheels are being modified as we speak, as we are using the original Maloo rims

Hey guys - sound like a great package,

I have a question regarding the Dry Sump,
what sort of setup are you fitting, also what sort of $$
I am interest for a curcuit car project, not alot of people in aus running an lsx dry sumped

Cheers & all the best

APS Fston

There are a couple of options.
Harrop have a dry sump available and we also bring them in from the States.
We havent decided which dry sump the Maloo will get yet. The engine and transmission on this car will be lower in the engine bay so the blower will stay under the original bonnet. There is still a lot of dummy assembling before we confirm what we will be running.
As for $$, it is price on application so contact us if you have any further questions

I'm running a dry sump set up on my 408ci engine that comprises of a complete Higgins set up based on a Barnes 4 stage pump that is near identical to the systems used on the 24hr Monaros so there is no doubt it will be up to the task.I believe he still has a kit in stock if interested.

Are you sure Harrop have a dry sump available for this application presuming that the engine will remain LS2.
As far as I know Harrop do not have a kit available with provision for the revised cam position sensor on the LS2 which is within the timing cover which is replaced as part of their LS1 package.
Looks like your decision may already be made

The engine is all but ready to be assembled. It is being cryogenically processed and then it will have several treatments offered by HPC High Performance Coatings. We hope to see this project complete sooner than later.

Mick it's Daniel, I'm the guy with the VZ SS ute that dropped in about an hour ago asking about the brake upgrades! I'd like to drop down again and have a look at that Maloo again when it is finished, that thing is gonna be nuts.

I'll be in contact with you about the brake upgrades within the next few weeks, if all goes to plan...

25 series means 25% of the 325mm width, so it wont be any lower profile than a normal 245/35/19.....

APS Fston
02-05-2006, 03:14 PM
It will quite easily fit 315/35/19 but we are hoping to fit a 335/35/19.

We are pleased to say this project is almost at its completion.

They used the original rim cut in half with a Simmons inner section to whatever size you require. The company we use is The Mag Wheel Centre. Ask for Peter West

OK The wait is over. Finally.

We had a lot of hold ups with engine pulleys, tyres, and various other components but the car is now ready for tuning and with 2 bar finally available for LS2 it will complete the whole project perfectly.
We gave the car some minor tuning on the dyno to get it driveable on the road and the car made a healthy 632 rwhp.
Here are some more pics to wet your appetite

We have been doing some further dyno testing when the customer can leave it with us. After making an incredible 793rwhp at 17psi boost. We then reduced the boost down to 14psi and still made an incredible 688rwhp.
This car is absolutely amazing to drive, it still breaks traction well over 100kph with the street tune in it.

Impressive power. Is this an iron or aluminium block?
I see that the dyno chart starts at 3000rpm. How does the big Whipple perform lower down - does it have the same low down characteristics as the 2.4L Whipple?

This is one awesome looking ute... I know I'm a bit behind the times, however I'm considering buying one of the devil yellow 15th Anniversary R8s to trade up from my 2005 SSZ ute...

Can anyone comment on the performance of the R8 compared to a stock VZ SS 5.7L?

If I make the switch (to a 2005 Z Series R8) will I be awestruck - or in need of APS help to mod the R8 in no time! (The wife is already making me swear I won't modify a R8 if I buy one...!)

Out of interest, does anyone have more information / pics on the APS modified R8 or know how to get in touch with the owner of the custom ute?
