I was wondering if Harrop 4 piston calipers click like standard Holden calipers? I have noticed in all my latter model Holden Commodores that when you put in harder suspension you can really hear the brakes click when going over bumps and I have been told this is the calipers making this noise. Is this a problem with your aftermarket packages?

My bros xr8 has the same issue & its very annoying, its the slide on the calipers the shaft is a very loose fit, touch the brakes & it goes away. Ford said they replaced the calipers but they only regreased them which kept it quiet for a couple of weeks. The noise is alot worse now he has the stiff bilsteins in. Dont know if that will help?:D

Yep, this is exactly the same issue, I had it on my HSV with C5 calipers, but not on my VXII SS but it is an issue on the Monaro, along with the squealing it is giving me the craps.
I have Bilsteins in my Monaro and it made the noise worse but funny I had the same Bilsteins in my SS and didnt have this issue despite standard brakes on both cars.
I am thinking of just getting aftermarket brakes to fix the issue since I wanted them anyway. Those Harrops in the other thread look like they would do the job ;)

Daniel, I have the same suspension as you and I've been trying to track down the metallic noice (front and back) when i hit a crease in the road, really been giving me the shytes. Sounds like the same issue as yours?

Yep, sounds like you have the same issue. I would be fairly sure if we comapred the sounds you would find it is what I am describing here. The Bilsteins being a firmer shock really bring out this noise I have found but it is the fault of the brakes as I know I didnt have this issue with the SS and Bilsteins. Funny that you had the same issue with the squealing aswell. Holden should be able to fix yours for you without question as they fitted the shocks and springs for you. Mine maybe, but I think I will just do the brakes with aftermarket gear instead.

Sorry I should add just to check go through a bump without your foot on the brakes and see if you get the sound. If you do, try same bump with your foot on the brakes and see if it is still there. :)
The clicking is not uncommon with the OE 'sliding claw' design. It is certainly not limited to Holdens or Fords, and is very common on a lot of '90s Japanese vehicles which have done a few k's.
We have not had any queries or complaints (that I have heard of) from people with our 4-pistion kits hearing the noise you describe. I would be suprised it it did occur, as it could only really come from the friction pad being too loose in the caliper. All of our calipers have hardened stainless steel pad abutment strips, so unless the pad was undersize, it would be extremely unlikely.
Squealling ... a totally different scenario. The Holden suspension does lend itself to the odd squeal ... as HSV have experienced. There is no 'absolute' solution to this ... it is vehicle-specific.
