Taken from ninemsn. (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=76065) It's an interesting development and hopefully useful in minimising the damage done by idiots keying paintjobs.

New car paint fixes own scratches
Tuesday Dec 6 09:27 AEDT
AP - Nissan claims its new car paint can repair its own scratches and scrapes.

Minor scuffs disappear in about a week if your car has Scratch Guard Coat, a clear paint that the Japanese automaker developed with Nippon Paint Co, company spokesman Kiyoshi Ariga said.

The coating, which Nissan says is the first of its kind in the world, contains elastic resin.

It's rubbery surface can bounce back to repair itself of slight scratches caused by car-washing, off-road driving and fingernails, the company says.

Car-washing machines account for most car surface scratches, according to Nissan, which showed before and after photos of a car with scratches on the hood and one with no scratches a week later.

The coat lasts about three years, Nissan said.

The scratch-proof paint job will be offered only in some Japan models of the X-Trail sport-utility vehicle, planned for sale soon, and overseas plans are still undecided, Ariga said.

It may be offered in other models, but no decision has been made, he said.

Nissan would only say Scratch Guard Coat costs a few hundred dollars extra.

If it wasn't for the Nissan and ninemsn references, you could be reading a page out of the How To Con Car Consumers HandBook For Aftermarket Wenches.

One aftermarket girl in a dealership I worked at was so brainwashed about how good the shit she sold was, we got her a cardboard tube, painted it gold, and called it The Ming Wand.

We stuck Ming stickers on it and presented it to her, and she didn't see what the real joke was for a couple of weeks.

Stew, had some since September being trialed over here. Cost $1000 per litre so I don't know where they get the few hundred dollars a car from

It's very similar to the gel coats on boats to work on, and doesn't really like wax and/or polishes tho. The hotter it gets the more it heals tho with regards to scratches and marks.

Will it stop those little shits with screw drivers, I doubt it. I'd say they'd just go back to using brake fluid :(
