our cousin bought us this air conditioning unit down from their shop @ wagga wagga, he told us it was a 3.5hp unit. by that i assume he meant thecompressor outside is 3.5hp.... however on the label of the unit it has the following ratings......

- on the compressor outside it has the following : rated input power cooling 1260kw / heating 1260kw / rated imput current 5.5a

- on the fan inside it has: rated input power cooling 3500kw / heating 3700kw / imput watts 1300 for both cooling/heating.

if i am correct (and im probably not) the compressor is only about 1.6hp right... we have been told it might not be enough to cool the room up, is about a 8.5*4.5m rooms with 3m ceilings.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Manufacturer and model number will come in handy to check it out....

Mine is a 4hp which draws 8.4amps 3 phase if that helps.

Aircon power ratings are done 2 ways

The kW rating is usually the power that the compressor draws
The hp rating is the cooling (or heating) capability of the unit and is usually around triple that of the compressors power draw

In your case you have a 1.26kW compressor this converts to roughly 4.5 - 5hp cooling power. Probably about what you need for a room that size.
