Just a short report, rant and rave about my recent travels.

First off I drove 3291k’s in 8 days and drove from Sydney to Burleigh Hd’s then Mooloolaba, Noosa, The Town of 1770 and then back to Brisbane then Sydney.

I used 407 litres of fuel and averaged 11.7k’s/100. I was quite happy with this actually because there was a fair bit of suburban driving as well.

The Pacific Hwy.

What a joke this is. With the exception of a couple of duel carriageways the highway is just a potholed mess. I’m sure I hit some of the same holes I hit 15 years ago. The roadworks are a joke…half assed and not completed lots all along the way. Grafton and Kempsey being the worst. Shame on the state govt. So much for our taxes being used for roads.

Cross the border to Qld and the roads become pristine and FREE as well.

The Cops.

Left on Dec 22 and didn’t see a cop for ages. Didn’t see a speed trap at all.

Came back yesterday and every second car is a cop or is being pulled over by one. They are everywhere….I’m not kidding. Double demerit points and fat bonuses must get results I guess. I did see some freaky shit though with some motorists being total tools and overtaking in 4wd’s full of kids and family while towing jet skis. Some of them are worth shooting….they are just too stupid to be behind the wheel.

I reckon I saw 5 near miss fatals yesterday on the way home….pure bloody lunacy.

Speed Cams.

WTF is going on….either side of Coff’s there is a speed cam every 5k’s for about 30k’s. There are so many money grabbers up there that it’s not funny. Thank god for cruise control.

Hoon’s in QLD.

They have anti hoon laws in force up there but that’s only for the surf beaches….so the hoons go to the burbs instead. Lots of rice with noise and bluff up there. I saw some of the fastest cars in the world up there….thats if you believe all the stickers on the cars. Lots of Nismo, rice performance, etc etc stickers. Whatever 

Got a few of them trying to go me and left em standing….thanks Sonny.

Overall

Overall was a great trip and my daughter loved it as well. It was a long drive but was totally worth it. Now I have to go wash a lot of bugs away.

The funny part of the trip was meeting up with an old girlfriend of mine in Coff’s and staying at her place. She met us at the Coff’s pub and we followed her to her place. After about going 10k inland she turned into a dirt driveway. I followed her not realizing what was coming. She lives on the top of a mountain!

Her driveway is 1.3ks long and goes straight up the side of a mountain! My car was covered in dust from top to bottom and then I had to drive down the same goat track the next day. 2 runs through Carlovers sorted that out tho. I have some pics which I’ll post later.

Sorry its so long.

Cheers,
Jim

Jimbo,

Glad you made it back ok. Sounds like you have a few stories to tell over a couple of cold ones.

BTW and off topic here, but keep the 27th Jan free. Bodacious Cowboys are playing at the Basement.

I agree 100% on the condition of the Pac Hwy. I'm sure some of those roadworks haven't progressed in years. On the positive side, the Karuha (sic) bypass is fantastic.

Cheers,

Scott

Hey Scott,

Yeah I'll keep it free and I'll ring my mate who plays guitar in the band and get our names on the door if possible. I'll ring ya later about it for sure.

That section that bypasses Karuha is EXCELLENT!. 110kph on flat concrete for ages......pity more of the hwy isn't like that. The new freeway from Ballina to Tweed is good too. The Brisbane freeway from Brissy to Coolangata is also a good strip. They are all free as well. If they were in NSW they would be all tollways.

Hi Jim,

You say you averaged 11.7L/100km? Is your car edited? I ask because on a trip to Melb/Port Campbell, I did about 2300km, mix of hwy and urban and averaged 10L/100km, and my car is not edited yet. I have extractors and dual cat back exhausts as the only mods.

Were you giving it a bit on the way?

Thanks

Yas

Yas,

I had the edit done before I left. No other mods tho.

I gave it a bit here and there.....overtaking I had to give it a bit because of the amount of cars in front of me most times. I had to hit 140 most times to get past them all. All done very safely of course.

I gave it a bit of stick around the backroads as well.....enjoying the new edit :)
