Just checked www.bom.gov.au. It was 34 in Melbourne at midnight and it is now 22. Can't wait for that cool change. 35 in Canberra at the moment heading for 38. Not quite Sydney temps but its still pretty warm.

would almost start melting in the sun then....

I remember filling up our Patrol in Penrith just after buying it (in Jan 04), and getting home to Canberra. I looked at the BoM website, and saw that at the time I was filling the patrol, the temp was around 48....and all I noticed was the hot wind.

hot, not wrong!

I spent last night at a mates place to ring in my unofficial "year of the lion" (Holden to win V8 Supercars) and didnt even manage to go outside until 6:pm and even then it was hot hot hot.

They have a tin roof but a huge ducted air cond system thank god, and it managed to do its job quite well so we sat in front of the TV and spent hours watching the Simpsons then the entire Sandown 500 replay on fox sports.

I got home only to find our ductings not really coping with the heat. Just went for a swim then to cool down and the waters about the same temp I have my shower at!

Already has mate Huge ones up Gosford way. I'm assuming the best but its worrying that a few of them havent returned my calls yet :(

Coming home I thought I'd get away with the windows down and the sunroof open.

Err no, how about with the sunroof closed (blind closed too to hide the sun) and the windows open

Or how bout just whack the air cond on. Good idea, air cond ...

I should also mention I'm driving around the Penrith area which might make a degree or 2 difference :bash:

I don't live in Aus so can't comment on the Temp. But I can tell you a small story.

I was in Pheonix (AZ, USA) a few years back. Learnt to run from the car to the house as you were in the heat less, you sweated the same and the evaporation of the sweat in the Air con felt cooler. Went to Hooters for lunch one day and sat in the garden bar with the misters on full (fine spray coming from dedicated water lines mounted on the gutters of the buildings).

On the day I flew out it was 118 Deg F. At the airport people were wearing tea shirts which said "I survived 120". I asked what that meant. Was told that the previous year they had shutdown the airport as some tables on boeings only go to 120 Deg, so they had to ground them for safety reasons (may have been an urban legend, but sounded good).

Riding home this arvo from the beach on the bike in full leathers was unbearable! I was seriously about to pass out - I made it half way home (Fullers Rd) parked in the shade, stripped off and jumped in the river to cool off. Got a lift home in a mates ute (air conditioned....). Just got home from picking up the bike......what was i thinking!

I went up to my Station (RFS) at 12pm.
Within one hour 6 of our trucks where at Gosford... that hot
WE had a fire in a methan/tip place and the hill was about 45 degrees that we had to run up.. bloody hot, after about 10 mins we were all stuffed.... felt like diein it was that hot!!!
At about 7pm it felt great (was still 35degrees), i was walking on burnt ground and it felt like i was on the road in bare feet and i have very thick boots and socks!!

For the record it got to 45 Degrees C at Terry Hills and even hotter at West Head...

And now we have a southerly :) good for us, bad for Gosford and their fires :(

Enjoy

[QUOTE]we got 45.6 at Penrith today....damn hot[QUOTE] whered ya get that reading from?

I've been told that the reading they get for the news and media is acctually taken from a weather station at the lakes scheme, and is usually off the mark due to either the cool breeze coming off the water, or the heat reflected from the water, and was never really close to the reading taken from our back yard!

Wow what a night...

As you have probably heard, we were surrounded by fires last night here on the central coast.

Initially woy-woy was under attack with it heading south towards umina, then the southerly change came through turning it around directly toward us.
Half the suburb voluntarily evacuated and most houses had their cars packed ready to roll.

Standing outside was truely an eery experiance. The sky had a bright red glow to it, the sirens were tearing to and fro in every direction and the lit embers wafting through the sky put a chill down your spine.

Earlier in the day the number of choppers was astounding. One of the sky crane water bombers from the US flew low and straight over head. Wow, they are massive....and loud.

Anyway, i'd just like to say a HUGE heartfelt thankyou to the rural fire service and the job they do. If it were not for them, we'd be living out the back of the car at the moment.

They are true aussie heros.

The bitter irony is that several of the fire-fighters private cars were lost to the flames yesterday.

Thanks guys.

I was not up at the central coast fires as we had to have people in our area, and we had a big enough one for our people (as the rest were up in the central coast)
I live in Mona Vale and i could see the red sky last night, it was very freaky.
The good news is it is nearly controlled and we are not sending units up there so its getting better :)
It sucks for the guys whos cars were burnt down, but im sure they will be looked after, its actually really crap, also about the ambo who died.
It makes me think we need tougher laws on pyros ( i dont know how it was lit) I mean 5 years in jail is nothing compared to the families who lost there houses and loved ones.

Anyways at least the heat has gone :)

Hi Dudes,

I have just got back from a quick trip to the Murray River. On New Years Eve it was 45 degrees....but very little humidity. I went out and played 18 holes of golf. No problem. It was hot, but I didnt event sweat!!

But....in November I went to Cairns. 32 degrees and ridiculous humidity. It was unbearable. Couldnt stand it.

Yesterday we heard it was 45 in Sydney. We knew you guys would be suffering with 45 degrees plus Sydney humidity.

Between heat and humidity?????? I'll take heat anyday.
