Haha I saw that one driving through Cranbourne the other day, with a rather attractive young blonde ladyfriend at the controls! I noticed it was a 6-litre, so I looked down at my steering wheel and cried. I want a 6-litre.

Hmmm, that roadway looks VERY familiar....could it have been in the happy shire. Victoria St/Brandy Creek Road perhaps???????
I reckon I could nearly even hazard a guess as to the driver.

It looks like one you can just pick up or order here in the States. I wonder what kind of engineering tests they were doing on that Mule. Why use a LHD for testing when they build them in much larger numbers in RHD? I have to laugh how they cut out the Rear insert for the hitch. It now just spells GO. I've painted & installed the CV8 rear insert on my car. They could of just went to the parts bin and slapped the Monaro rear insert on as quick as they could of cut the hole.
Good effort in getting the pics

RHD Monaro doesn't have a 6 litre engine ??? Maybe whatever they were testing required the Pontiac ... of course the HSV has a 6 litre, who knows what they were doing ???
Plus, I think they actually sell a lot more LHD than they do RHD, there have only been around 1,500 Monaros sold each year here.

Ok.
My bad... I thought they made the RHD Holdens in quantity in 2 and 4 doors and the LHD GTOs were the limited number production runs. I'm curious why the 6.0 L isn't the standard V8 in Australia or at least a small cost option.
The Monaros do have better interiors with the climate control, pod gauges, and available GPS. Heck, here in the U.S. the GTO doesn't come with ONSTAR or XM satalite radio either. It's still a wonderful car that GM desperately needed to get here because of the void cause be the huge mistake of killing the Camaro and Firebird.
Ford is selling the Mustang in good numbers and Chrysler has a decent selling Hemi car and the Challenger coming in couple years. Hopefully all this testing is going towards a value priced musclecar we can all enjoy.

4 door RHD Commodores are made in huge numbers ... the Monaro has always sold in MUCH smaller numbers

Almost right. Lowest number of Monaros was Series III @ ~ 2,000. As they will have made ~45,000 LHD cars for Saudi and the 'States that's a far greater population.
SI 4400, SII, 3600, SIII 2,000, VZ ~ 3200 (total CV8, CV8Z). Add a few more hundred each year for HSV.
Holden won't sell the LS2 because they and HSV decided it should be kept for HSV - otherwise there'd be less incentive to buy one.
As the Monaro is now finished there was no reason to fit the L76 for Euro III compliance, so all Holden Monaros ever made have LS1s.
And if you hang around the HQ in Lorimer St Fishermans Bend for half a day, you will see quite a few 'engineering' specials running around. I've seen '04, '05 and '06 GTO mules - they will still be fixing issues, fudging ECU tunes etc. Holden don't seem to mind people seeing them, as I've seen them being used on weekends for shopping or outings.

Whats so cool about this car, apart from it being a Monaro. Compared to a VZ or CV8Z, this thing has 17" wheels, we get 18". And also the round front is nowhere near as agressive as our's. The 6.0l is the only thing going for it. Naturally this is a subjective oppinion.

that in its self is pretty cool, i think so anyway
seeing it in the flesh i was surprised how good it looked
i was never sure about the front end but after seeing it i like it
plus id defeniatley take a 6.0 over a 5.7 :headbang:

Very interesting!!- Why would GM be doing an "Evaluation" at this stage, when production is supposed to cease mid 06. Does this mean that they are evaluating L76 for continuing post mid 06 Monaro/GTO production in USA.
Cheers, Pickles.

I'm with you... I never understood why a high performance car, came with 17" wheels over here rather then 18". One thing though I love that orange colour. I heard they were suppose to have an orange interior also.
DO you guys have the Cyclone Grey colour. Here is mine.

We had the option for 18" wheels, but they didn't offer it till half way of the production year. Anyways, I'm a fan of a deep dish wheel anyway. Makes the car look like a true rear wheel drive. Don't know how many times people thought it was a front wheel drive.

There are a few guys over here who have put on the Holden front caps. There are at least two that I can think of who have done all out conversions from the Pontiac to the Holden Monaro. And yes, I think the Holden front end looks better.

Funny how they go to all the trouble of changing the parts for the US just to
have people like me put it back . Only thing I I have left to change is the front bar .

I want one :p hehehehe its funny I have a mate over in Kuwait with a VY SS and he went to Aus and bout all the Holden logo's etc and here we are trying to get all the Chevy badges etc.. Its amazing how cheap chevy parts were though, on ebay front grill for the Vy's go for around $200 but other there its only $80 Aussie dollars :P... Must admit they really trash our commodores over there though, average speed on his car was 116km/h after travelling total of 4000kms :p
