Hi all,
Been getting some really excellent information out of these forums since I first got my VY SV8 about 3 weeks ago. At first I was not really thinking about doing anything to it but after reading many hundreds of posts I think it might just be a good idea to change a few things  I'm planning on a dual 2.5" catback exhaust and a Chipmaster mailorder MAF tune.
My biggest problem now is, I need to decide what level of exhaust to get from Sureflo. My biggest concern is drone, but Greg has assured me that even their loud system is drone free compared to the stock system. I want to achieve a good balance between quiet cruising, low police attention but a good roar when you nail it.
I'd love to hear anybody's car that's had a Sureflo dual 2.5" system fitted. It would be great to get an idea of how loud they actually are and what they sound like. I'm planning to drive down to Sydney in February to get the system fitted so it would be great to listen to some systems before then.
So yeah, any volunteers? I'm in Brisbane

if you go for 5/10 it will be pretty good. you do get a drone under load under 1500rpm in my experience, but this is simply the engine working too hard. if you floor it, drive it normally, shift around from 1500rpm upwards, there is no drone.
you will however probably not be happy with just the catback, i would recommend at the very least opening up your cats to 2.5, even further going for extractors if you want more throat. the gen3 is a hard engine to get both very throaty and not droney at quieter sound levels, the easiest way to do it is extractors, opened or hiflow cats, and a medium 3.5" single sureflo.
my opnion of throaty seems a little higher in standard to some on here though, but purely from the point of view of getting it to sound like something approaching the 5L or carby v8's, this is the option. catback only gen3's really dont sound like a rorty v8, they sound closer to turbo 6's in my VERY VERY humble opinion :)

Hi Chris,
I'm like you - in Brisbane and planning a trip to Sureflo and then once I return a visit to power torque. I'm looking forward to the drive down and even more so to the drive back :)
I'll go for the pacemakers and 2.5 inch exhaust - not sure how loud yet. I'll then defintely get the mafless tune - still deciding on the diff the funds will be running low at that stage!
Would love to know what you decide and how it turned out!

Before you all go and spend a fortune on exhausts, take some time to go and see shaun and the boys at powertorque, my car goes in tommorrow for exhuast, mafless, diff gears and otrcai. now i was origianally going to put on a S/s ces racing system and part with some what $3500. after much debait with shaun he advised me unless i am going to put out 300 rwkw i was wasting my money, so this is the exhuast that is going on the vx ss. pacemaker try's hpc coated, opened cats, non mandral bent steel pipes, cross over pipe, and twin mufflers. Shaun advised me there is no true kw improvements with the acc i am putting on by spending more on an exhuast. spend little on each iteam as possible but bye lots.!!!!!!!!!

As vxleather says go and see Shaun and the boys at Power torque before you do anything. A wealth of experience there from what I can see and there are also a lot on here vouching for them as well.
Alex
non mandral bent steel pipes,
Why non mandrel bent pipes ?
Seems strange advice

Who said anything about spending a fortune on
exhausts? The bloke asked about the Sureflo
2.5 twin which is a very reasonably priced exhaust,
and by all reports has a top note. None of the replies
recommended expensive exhaust mods either.
Agree with alexs on the extractors, you won't get
a good V8 note without them. Swapping my
opened cats for hiflows also gave mine a much
deeper note.

did the hiflows give a better kw improvement ?

Car hasn't been on a dyno since we moved to the
NT (over 2 years). No sop improvement that I could
notice though, not that I would expect to notice.

Thanks for all the great replies guys. mallen, i'll definitely keep the forum posted when I go ahead and have my mods done. I'm hoping to spend the day in Sydney after the exhaust is replaced so I can give it a good test run and head back to Sureflo if there are any problems.
I was initially going to get the thing put on here in Brissie but Greg's shop fits it for free (well, included in the cost) so I thought may as well go for a road trip. I'd rather have them fit it than some bozo who couldn't care less about the quality of the workmanship.
Anyway, I should clarify a few things. I am not looking for huge horsepower gains. My main goals for the car are improved fuel economy, quieter cruise and better behaviour from the auto, ie make it the way it should have come from the factory. If I can hit 250-260fwkw then I will be more than happy (it's a series one so rated at 235kw as I'm sure everyone knows :clown:) Yes I know that is nowhere near the engine's potential but I can always change more things if down the track I develop a desire for more power...
I think I may opt for the quietest sureflo exhaust as I'm not really interested in drawing attention to myself (otherwise I'd have bought an SS). Finally, I am trying to keep it as close to stock look as possible so as to not upset the Holden warranty guys. I have a history of bad luck with cars, appliances and all kinds of things, and have learnt that a good warranty is my best friend :(

But yeah I may very well go up and see the guys at Power Torque first before I head down to Sydney and see what they can come up with...

My zorst setup got me 213rwkw pre-edit. Well worth the $$ in my book. Absolutely no drone ever!! But has the perfect balance between stealth and roar under heavy right foot. Tri-Y - HPC coat - High Flow cats - stainless mufflers - mandrel bent 2.5. Done by Taipan XP on gold coast. Send me a PM if you are on coast and want to have a listen.
It actually is still getting a little louder as it carbons up a little - pretty happy with it..
