Bad news overnight 9 January - Andy Caldicott killed while competing in the Lisbon - Dahkar Rally.

Very sad news - the Dakar has certainly taken it's toll on competitors and organizers over the years .

Shite. He was a great ambassodor and fantastic rider in those desert racers. Will be sadly missed. Condolences to his family and friends.

I heard it last night during the late night news. Pretty upsetting. My Dad and a few of his mates knew Andy from where he lived. RIP.

Andy Caldecott - Australian motorcyclist died last night crashing during the 9th stage of the Dakar Rally.
Andy was an ace in enduro & rally motorcycling. He won the 3rd Dakar stage this year & was 10th overall when this happened. This was his 3rd time competing. You have to be good just to compete, the Dakar is a monster both physically & mentally. He would have won more stages & probably been an overall champ there some year.

i am a fan of Andy's & was following his progress on SBS each night. Stoked that he won a stage. His accident was at high speed, estimated 150km/h.

Andy was a 41yrs young, survived by his wife, daughter and future child (wife is pregnant). Too young, so sad.

What a waste ! this guy was a top rider and a better bloke if you ever talked to him he just didnt do the yes no stuff he showed us behind the ropes and the bikes and told us just how hard this rally was Andy was a top bloke and he will be sadly missed ! motor sport is dangerous but some are taken far to early R.I.P ANDY.
