It is reported Western Australia's Police Minister, Michelle Roberts is to introduce legislation in March banning the item, in effect, to allow Australian Road Rule 225.
At this point she has opposition support with LIB leader Mathew Birney offering that support.

IF you don't want the prohibition you should let both sides know, particularly the opposition.

In another forum a chap recalled this from Michelle, these are the SWS devices:
As opposed to:
WA government buys 20,000 radar emmiters for road safety use. These emitters are for the use of Main Roads, councils and emergency services and are to be placed in dangerous situations such as flooded, blocked or damaged roads and accidents etc.
"We noted that there are many of these devices about and as they can give warning to drivers before there is any danger." stated the minister for transport. The emitters can be detected up to 2 km away and give lots of warning to oncoming vehicles.
"WA is a large place and we recognise that fatigue over long distances is a major cause of road trauma rather than the simplistic although lucrative eastern state theories that speed is always the problem and speeding fines will fix it" stated the shadow minister.
"Here is WA we want to save lives even if it is at the expense of government income from speed cameras" stated the Premier.
"This is not a get out of jail free card for speeders, if they are going a little over the limit then they will have time to slow, if a lot then we will catch them and treat them accordingly. Lives are more important than financial income"" stated the Police minister.

Our police minister is an idiot. Yet again they fixate on speed. This is regardless of the fact that road deaths have plateaued for the last few years. There is a good reason these morons are always banging the speed drum, and thats bacause they can easily measure and trap anyone speeding, with little or no effort, expense or thought.
The issues of fatigue, in-attention, driver inexperience, road quality, vehicle condition, driver training and just giving the wrong people a license are ignored because that would require a major shift in thinking. And let's be honest, our minister and various other idiots are incapable moving from the populist, vote buying speed fixation.
Writing to the minister or the shadow minister is pointless. They don't one bit what we think. We are just a handy foil, and source of ready cash, to work out ways to unjustly remove more cash from us.
And no, I haven't just been busted, it's been over 18 months since my last lot of involuntary taxation.

it was said that last years road toll was the lowest since something like 1961(?) which of cousre was mainly attributed to the lowering to 50kmh in suburban streets.....apparently :lmao:

I'with you - exactly my sentiments - easy use of technology that is almost impossible to beat in courts. Not effective but easily put into law & enforced.
How would you take a fatigue test, one of the major contributors of an accident? I guarantee if you are pulled over for a test, you would suddenly be wide awake with adrenaline.
The focus on speed will stay until drivers can be monitored in-car to keep fatigue etc at bay ? Until then, might as well put on the cruise control, put some music or talk back radio on, make a phone call or even send an sms to someone because I'm bored, maybe even read a work report or the newspaper on the steering wheel, drink a cup of coffee, perve on all the ladies [guilty of that one myself], anything but watch the road .... I've seen it all even someone falling asleep at the wheel at a set of lights.

Roberts is a dead set jerk. Talk about a do gooders.
She poises for photo shoots on a police motor bike, screaming that all motor bikes should have front number plates (Bugger, we're missing out on red light camera revenue). And by the way regarding Traffic lights and red light cameras, who in their right mind would run a red light on a motor bike (suiside). Roberts continually craps on about small shit, she needs to look at the big picture. Fix the roads up and drive education, not motor bike front number plates and radar detectors.
But the biggest joke is the WA Transport minister, she has gone DUI, so she craps on about evil people driving their cars at 45KM/H in a 40K zone.
Get over it, ADR rules specifiy +/- 10% on a speedo, shit I was breaking the speed limit by a real 1KM/H.
The real issue with school zones are the mums with their talking/ screaming children in the back of their 4 wheel drives, they sit there (like all childs do, mummmm!) demanding their parents full attention, crash!
Oh it dosen't matter, nothing I say will change a thing. It's all about Taxing the hell out of people, and furthering their public image.
I'm off my soap box now, I'll go a test out my Radar detector if that's ok Ms Roberts.

Just another smokescreen for the real issues that need fixing, like the shocking state of country roads and highways, ( Brand highway a good example) and lack of driver education.
I have been driving for 18 years and never had any traffic infringements, have been driving with a radar detector for a 5 years, so not all detector owners, buy them to save their last few demerit points!!
Michelle Roberts is a publicity hungry muppet and this is just another way of keeping her head on the news.

I rang DPI yesterday and asked if they offer any driver training courses because my wife and I are interested in becoming better & safer drivers. Answer - No....I was told I should contact a driving school in my area. So then I said, ok, now what about a government rebate. Answer - No. So I said, well thats a damn shame and not very proactive for safety is it....deaftly silence, thanked them and hung up.
If the government was serious about safety they would put on free driver training. It doesn't take a genious to work out that it would be a very succesful instrument in saving lives.
However, it's just completely to be expected isn't it.
If the safety costs money, forget it. But if campaigning on safety and enforcing it makes money i.e. multinovas, they sing a different tune. Hypocracy? Yeah, totally.
