Took an SV6 manual away at xmas and was impressed with it on the open road. Average over 800km journey was 8.5l/100km, at one stage the average dropped to 7.9. Around town it sits about 12-14l/100km
Also loved the power in 3rd gear and having always been a manual fan enjoyed the open road freedom. However I didnt enjoy driving it in city traffic. Pain in the arse, call me lazy but I can see why manuals dont sell anymore. With a decent auto you just dont need a manual shifter.
Back to the subject though, my partner's new CDXi Astra sits around 7.5l/100km so the SV6 is doing bloody well to be in that zone

Pfff! I got 8.6l/100km in the clubby on my way back from Sydney (to Canberra) yesterday after the skidpan day at EC and that's with an extra 2 cylinders and 70000km of wear and tear.

i got similar figures on a trip over xmas aswell but in an M6, 8.4l/100km that was over a distance of 1180kms at an avergare speed of 104.4kmh.

What was it while you were on the Skidpan, someone mentioned they saw figures of around 50L/100Km  while hooning around on the pan!!!

Yeah, I reset mine just after lunch and it was 64l/100km after a couple of runs on the figure 8 track :driving:

Hummmm, I think I'll stay with my 6, the 6litre...mine does 12-14 around town. :stick:

Just a question - how accurate are these computer readings regards litres per 100km as compared to actually filling the the tank then comparing km travelled to fuel used on the next fill and maybe over several tanks, often wonder if the computer gets tricked into giving generous readings.
I wouldn't take the computer reading as being 100% accurate, same when you fill up you often get different readings as to 'Distance to empty'.

You can thank the edit for that, the SV6 doesn't.

My SSZ is sitting between 16 and 18.9 l/100km around town with climate
control on
it has only done 700 kms and lowest i seen was 13.9 on the freeway with air
con off
Could the computer still be adjusting because the average speed says 45
km/h

The computer only looks at fuel used over distance travelled from its last reset. F'rinstance, if I was to reset as I blasted onto a freeway, I would see (probably) 9.5 litres per 100km after 100km of steady freeway driving. Urban use with idling at lots of lights; maybe 16 litres/100km. Combine the two and I might see 13.5 litres per hundred - which is not the TRUE fuel use for either, IYKWIM. Yes, it does take time fo rthe figures to stop flaucuating after a reset.
V8s do easy mid-9s or better on freeway and I've done 13s/100 in heavy urban traffic when trying hard for max fuel efficiency - including switching engine off at lights; not really recommended! - in an SV8 manual. F-n remarkable. really, for a 300hp V8
It's kinda odd how sixes and V8s get similar cruise fuel figures until you remember that a Commodore being punched through the wind is a Commodore being punched through the wind...

For that average speed mine is around low 14 l/100km. If you really want to know what it is doing on a freeway reset it just as you start on the freeway or get it to display instantaneous fuel usage (available through one of the options menus on SS/SSZ - see manual).

mine was calculated from pump figures, the trip computer actually indicated 9.9L/100km, i have adjusted the calibration in the trip computer and on my next decent trip will check it's accuracy again.

I calculated my fuel usage to be 8.4L/100km yesterday on my trip back from exmouth.
NIce steady crusing at 130km/h in 6th.

I don't recall having a tank of fuel average over 9.9 since I've had my SV6. It's done 42000kms and I drive it 40kms each way into the city each day. I log all the fuel usage and it compares well with the trip computer. Averaged 8.11 from melb to echuca and back yesterday with aircon on all the way.

Hi Drewie,
When I bought my SV8, I wondered about the accuracy of the economy gauge. My calculations based on fuel required to fill the tank produce figures about 0.5 - 1 L / 100 km's BETTER than the economy gauge displayed. That's always been the case. The trip computer showed 8.0L / 100 km's on a run from Melbourne to Sydney. My figures worked out at 7.95 L / 100 km's. Ordinarily, 0.05 L / 100 km's is not worth worrying about . . . but when it drops a Gen III Chev's economy into the 7's :yup:
It's a bit like clocking a 12.99 standing quarter isn't it???
No!?!?! Wait until we have the hairy armpitted purple caped Koyoto Protocol Nazis on our back to reduce greenhouse gas production! We can say that our V8's are as good as SV6's which are as good as Vectras.
