Due to the overall lack, and now as of 2006, Channel 10's decreasing involvement in televised Motor sport in Australia, Australian Motor sport fans have decided to host this petition to insist that FOXTEL/OPTUS/AUSTAR create a dedicated channel for the basic pay TV viewers, televising motor sport 24 hrs a day 7 days a week 365 days a year

Now this is a good idea! Can't get enough of motorsport, but there is a problem...
My girlfriend is going to kill me if she see's another "car thing" - seems like a reasonable trade. :burnout:

The only thing I have Foxtel for is the motorsport (live motoGP and WSB). They did seem to bump up their motorsport content over Xmas, which was good. Mostly repeats of V8 Supercars, motoGP and so on, but helped pass the time.
I think a full time motorsport show would be good. Finding enough content might be an issue. If it had heaps of live stuff, I would be interested. I wouldn't be that keen on watching repeats all day. There's plenty of stuff they show already on FS1 and FS2:
motoGP
WSB
BSB
WEC
AMA Superbikes
BTC
WRC
V8 Supercars
Throw in some doco's, programs like Top Gear etc - yeah, I think it would work :yup:

Done.
I'd love to see some Test and Tunes televised. I bet it would get a much larger following and increase number of the sport too.
Signed,
Something along the lines of the Speed channel in America would be great.
Last weekend I caught the American GT championship (I love the Cadillacs) on Fox 1 which was really good racing.
I'd like to see more of this sort of road racing shown at regular times instead of being used as a fill in while the footy codes are out of season.

Don't get me wrong I'd pay extra for a motorsport channel on cable.
BUT
I really see the legal side of the broadcasting rights being a major hurdle in getting content. I had a chat a few years ago with a guy who was laywer for channel 9 and he told me they where trying to change the deal they had with Bernie Eclstone (spelling) wrt to F1 broadcasting so foxtel could show F1 races live and channel 9 would still broadcast free to air in its normal slot. F1 said no...

Call me a cynic...but won't this take more of it off free to air TV ?
What have Channel 10 dropped for 2006?
Not everyone has pay-tv!
What have Channel 10 dropped for 2006? AFAIK Ch10 has actually INCREASED its coverage of the V8Supercars by 30mins for sunday races and about an hour or two for Sandown, Bathurst & Clipsal.

Great idea but I doubt that it will happen. They'll have a full time Dwarf throwing channel before we get a full time Motorsport one. We have Foxtel on at work all day and I'd rather be watching a Motorsport Channel with re-runs of Bathurst than Missy bloody Higgins and Johnny Mayer unplugged and hopeless.

Only have limited motor sport now as we only have 2 commercial stations, once the footy starts all m/sport is shown LATE on weeknights,:cussing: not good when you start work at 6 in the morning.A m/sport channel would be greatly appreciated.:D
ABC2 has had some interesting racing from the 1970's & 1980's. Brings back some memories.
I'd be happy to see re-runs of some of the older Bathurst telecasts.
ABC's a sometimes a pain though. I grow tired of their pregnant pauses (702 2BL) and pixelation reception problems (ABC2 Sydney). Just as well they don't have to make a profit!
I'd also like to see a few F1 re-runs of Senna in his glory days. He's been gone for almost 12 years now.

This Petition got some Media attention in the lattest issue of CAMS magazine that was just released....
Here's the article:
Starved fans petition for more motor sport coverage on TV
Absolutely nothing beats being at a motor sport event - the atmosphere amongst the crowd, the passion behind the organisation and operation, and drivers racing on the edge of adhesion. Watching motor sport on television comes a close second.
It is from the armchair that the desire to have a dedicated motor sport television channel has arisen.
So it is hardly surprising that the Australian motor sport website Autosports has decided to petition the pay television companies in hope of attaining the ultimate prize - the chance to watch motor sport 24/7 for 365 days a year.
Autosports believe that with the multitude of televised motor sport both in Australia and overseas, and the vast amounts of footage of historical races from the early days of world and Australian motor sport, there should more than enough material to support such a channel. They also believe that if Foxtel/Optus Vision were to run such a dedicated channel, they would surely have a great opportunity to tap into a starving market.
The possibility of a dedicated motor sport channel would also assist up and coming young talent to secure sponsorship deals. Money is a vital ingredient for young drivers looking to embark on an international motor sport career, and with a dedicated motor sport channel there would be a lot a greater chance for young drivers to fund their aspirations through increased awareness and improved sponsorship opportunities.
If you strongly believe that motor sport deserves a better deal with regard to TV coverage and would like to sign the petition, go to www.autosports.com.au/tvpet.
