He has'nt been hiding under a rock, more like tripping around the globe!
As for the choice of either L76 or LS2 ,the clubbie would be a no brainer...and cheaper as well!
Cheers

2006 SS are only available with 6L L76 engine mate. No more LS1 5.7's end of a era.
Go the Clubby for sure! 56k for a SS, drive it out and it will be worth 46k the next day. HSV if only for the resale.

Definetly the Clubbie.....$56k is a lot of cash for an SS which will be lucky to be worth half that in 3 years. At least the Clubbie will hopefully hold it's value more. The SS is starting to get too expensive, don't think I would buy one at that price.

The Clubbie is becoming a Very Tempting Purchase at that price.. What do you think the Dealers could be pushed to Price Wise on a VZ Clubby?
I have no real idea about buying new cars. I wouldnt have the slightest idea about weather Dealers can be negotiated with.

Um the dealer is on drugs 6L or 5.7L SS for that price.
However, a 2005 Club - you're not trying hard enough ? But if they know you're going to trade something, then can understand why.
In Bris (in early Dec), found a 2005 R8 for $59.7k onroad registerd in NSW. I know that you're in Perth, but I'd go to about 4 dealers in Perth & try your luck. A 2005 plated HSV will be burning a hole in a dealers pocket about now........
I understand Zupps Brisbane have been doing VZ Clubbie's for 50k drive away for a while now.

Now that petrol is climbing back towards the $1.30 mark, you can bet your boots that people will be moving away from large cars / engines to the puss boxes again.
The Holden dealers can quote rec retail till they're blue in their faeces! If demand dries up due to petrol prices, they'll be crawling over each other to find buyers. It's my guess that this is at least a part of the reason why we've seen Clubbies discounted, petrol give-aways with V8's, "staff discounts" offered to the public etc etc.
If I decide to buy another V8, I'll surely be waiting for a sweet-heart deal because I know that I'll have to sell at a rock bottom price at trade-in time.

your trade price is not surprising as I was offered $27K for my SS a few days ago.
in terms of price - I would suggest if they are not going to budge, then it may be worth going elsewhere, unless of course the price was low anyway. doesn't hurt to "threaten" to take your business elsewhere.
if I needed to, I would go to Sydney to get a good price if I couldn't in canberra.

Lofty,
The LS2 in the clubbie is a great donk for a stocker 'aint it?
Mine's clocked over 16k's and after just doing 3,500km of touring with family and a boot full of luggage she seems to have found a few more herbs as well :burnout:

Hey lofty....
when you looking at buying.
if you want to save yourself some extra cash get yourself a holden mastercard... if you have some other credit cards, do balance transfers and you will accumulate 10% of the balance tranfer.... IE: 2000 tranfer = 200 of new HSV.
if you have multiple cards then great. also maybe pay a hefty chunk as a deposit... 5k deposit= 500 discoutnt.
even if you get a few hundred of better in your pocket i say.

Yeah this idea interest's me also... a few people have been saying that they have seen awsome prices on VZ Clubby's in perth etc..
How would someone go about purchasing a new car in say perth and registering it in another state? Could the rego just be transferd? or would you have to get a RWC etc? & also what about warrenty? servicing? etc?

if it is a new car, the dealer should organise interstate rego, and a RWC should not be required.
we bought out patrol in Syd, and bought it back to the ACT. When we transferred it to ACT rego, it had to go through a RWC, and we had to pay stamp duty on the purchase.

ahh i see.. im guessing the Patrol was 2nd hand..
For warrenty claims does the car have to be taken to the purchased Dealer or can it be taken to any authorized dealer?(say if the car was purcahsed interstate and u dont want to drive 5hours for a warrently claim) ;)
Thanks for the info.

yes the car can be taken to any authorised dealer for warranty issues...I just swapped dealers with my current SS, and have a claim under warranty (a piece of trim) and the new dealer is able to handle the issue fine.

Warranty will be ok as long as its still serviced @ Holden. I wouldnt come to Perth to buy a HSV, no cheaper over here i afraid.

You don't have to have it serviced at Holden
to retain your warranty.

Actually for the extended warranty on a HSV you do, its in the fine print. 1st three years it ok though.

There are good deals going at present.
I saw a brand new - 000017ks Clubby R8 at a southeast Melbourne dealership for $59000 drive away last week.
It was marked for three days only, but there's no doubt they are becoming VERY hard to shift at present.
As previously advised, you should shop around until you get the deal that is right for YOU, not the dealer.
The $55k drive away on the clubby is a bit much IMO. I reckon you could do better by at least $2-3k.
Oh yeah, and if you haven't already guessed, I would DEFINITELY go the Clubby.
Good luck,
Macca

So how does the HSV extended warranty compare
to the Holden extended warranty? Would want
to be a shite load better to even warrant consideration.

But is the extra insurance cost for the clubbie worth it compared to the SS?
I'm thinking of trading in on a clubbie myself, but the insurance worries me.
My address doesn't help lower the insurance either!

The dealer rang me today and offered me 2 free tanks of fuel one on pickup of the car and the other after the 3k service.
WOW
So is that 2 x tanks of fuel to compensate for the 6k price difference between 50k driveaway and 56K driveaway?
Lofty
25-01-2006, 10:24 PM
there $55k drive away he also mention that they would put on any extras for cost price only.
any ideas what i can say to them to get a better deal????
lofty:driving:
I don't know the market over in WA - but I would suggest saying that a number of HSV dealers in the east are selling for 50k driveaway - I also understand you have a trade so maybe it's better for you to concentrate on changeover figures rather than outright purchase price.
At the end of the day it's a negotiation - I suppose it's a bit dependent on whether you are willing to go down the rocky path of trying to sell your car privately to try to get a bit more for it (which in itself can be a drama remembering a low trade in price is generally the price you pay for not having to sell your car privately when you buy a new one) and/or buying sight unseen from east coast and having it transported over the the west.
If no to the above - I would suggest trying to squeeze the changeover price using the info you have received in this thread - at the end of the day you end up with a new HSV so it can't be all bad - and as many of the sage's who frequent this forum would say - price isn't everything do you feel comfortable with your relationship with your dealer which may save hassle down the track.
